At least crocodiles like the rain | Edinburgh Zoo

The sloths and armadillos have been moved behind the penguin enclosure for 3 weeks due to maintenance work.

Observations from my visit on Sunday:

The old panda house was open with only the female and the armadillos inside with them putting in substrate and ropes although the old platforms were still there.

All the giraffes are there and seeing them all together is pretty amazing. Most of them are on the lawn next to the house, with the mini ones being in the tent. There's also a couple in the meerkat plaza.

I took the photos on my new camera and I'll post them when I get time to connect them.

A few updates from tonight's AGM:
  • They are close to signing off on a £1.2million Solar field development which will see the very top paddock at the zoo turned into a solar field. This is expected to generate 1/5th of the zoo's electricity usage, it will have a 20 year lifespan, and will pay for itself after approximately 6 years.

This development has been granted planning permission by Edinburgh City Council today:

21/06721/FUL | Installation of ground mounted solar array and associated infrastructure. | Edinburgh Zoo 134 Corstorphine Road Edinburgh

According to my friend @Ben K , from his visit yesterday, the sloth house is now open and it seems like they built ropes overhead into the armadillo enclosure.

Also a couple of weeks ago they got a new female wildcat (From HWP I think.)
