Edinburgh Zoo Edinburgh Zoo News 2025

The problem with fireworks nowadays is that they seem to be used over a prolonged period during the darker nights in winter. Private parties and celebrations not related to those national dates seem to be the norm these days. So asking for a ban on just a couple of dates would be pretty ineffective.

Maybe, but the panda passed away on bonfire night if I remember & Edinburgh already has stricter controls on fireworks than a lot of the UK. Considering it’s mother passed away a days prior I think EZ should take a bit more responsibility about it and should have been receiving round the clock care.

Visited the park today, had absolutely lovely weather. All I have to report on today is that they have already put sloth bears on the directional signs, Wee beasties was closed due to maintenance and the new bear enclosure is looking great. Just a quick question does anyone know what is going in the enclosure opposite the giraffes?

Yeah they plan on having the sloth bear enclosure done by end of June/start of July. In regards to enclosure opposite Giraffes that is the new Zebra enclosure who will be moving into that soon with The horses and Camels moving into the current Zebra enclosure

Thanks for the pictures! I haven’t actually been to the zoo since the Pandas left so it’s great to see work is being commenced & see what’s happening at the moment over there, as the previous reply said they are due to have the Sloth Bear within a month or so.

Slightly bittersweet of course because the pandas were always my favourite but looking forward to seeing the Sloth Bear, I do wonder what they did with that wooden panda statue & the panda giraffe (the latter was donated), It would be a real shame If they disposed of them.

I was there a couple of times fortnight ago the panda giraffe is up by the giraffe house/enclosure

At least one sloth bear has now arrived at Edinburgh Zoo. Not yet on show but suspect it won’t be long.
Yeah I heard that and I believe the other one won’t be that far behind aswell I think the two camels they mentioned in the AGM arrived aswell where the zebras use to be top right of the zoo but don’t know if they have to like go in quarantine to make sure they don’t have blue tongue or something

That whole area of zoo still very much fenced off so not possible to get even a glimpse into the old zebra enclosure from within the zoo to see if anything is there or not. The horses haven’t moved yet though, they were in their usual spot this morning.

As an aside, wee Beasties is back open after several months of closure.

I’m no surprised that part is closed and that the horses have not moved in yet could be for a quarantine reason since blue tongue is for all hoof stock or cattle animals and the horses would come under that id guess maybe two weeks quarantine or something would expect sloth bears and camel enclosure to be open by like end of next week at the latest

Grevy's zebra? Do they only maintain a bachelor herd or a breeding group?
Any other species likely with them or with the giraffe in their own yard?
There are 0.3 Grevy's zebra – Azizi, Daniella and Grace.

Daniella was born in 2002 and arrived in 2008, Grace was born in 2018 and arrived in 2021 and Azizi was born in 2019 and arrived in 2022. They are in there own enclosure, not mixed with any other species.

1.0 arrived on a breeding loan last year, the zoo think at least one of the younger females is in foal.
