All sound so exiting. Pandas though, with how much they cost im not so sure they will arrive although visitor will be through the roof.

it all sounds very exciting, would love orang utans in edinburgh zoo

They have had them before. They actually had the first orangutan birth in the Uk though it didn't survive.

They kept them again from the 1960's onwards but had a very poor record, a number of imported babies all of which died, then a couple of longterm term residents but no births, until they gave up keeping them again.

the old gorilla house had macaques of somesort when i was there 2 weeks ago in it and it was kind of screend off round the out side bit i only seen one bongo as well sorry forgot your user name the guy that said about going into rainbow landings did you notice how the wires where not covered next to heaters and lights so birds could chew and get shocks

Interesting... Pandas possibly in the UK...
I can almost hear the activists' heads exploding

Oooo is that still on? I heard they might be moving Mercedes there...

Anything which annoys Zoocheck and CAPS is good in my opinion (as long as animals dont suffer obviously)

I personally dont think they should do it because of how much it will cost. Although visitors will be thorugh the roof.

Have Edinburgh got red pandas? They never mentioned what species? lol

It will be good for one zoo to exhibit giant panda's, I just wish it was Chester.

I think they do, well either they or Highland Park im not sure which.

Chester wanted Giant Pandas at one point i think

Chester are apparently just going to have a live link up with one of the panda breeding in china

I think Edinburgh sent their red's to HWP.

As long as a zoo can devote the time and facilities towards Giant Pandas, I'm not fussed what zoo they go to!

Colchester were also interested in Giant Pandas at one point. I think they would be the most suitable zoo after Chester and Edinburgh.

Giant pandas are shown on the masterplan, in the area where the Siberian musk deer and goral are kept, this area is known as Whitson wood.
