Jaguar Born At Jax Zoo; Mom & Cub Doing Well - Family News Story - WJXT Jacksonville

The Jacksonville Zoo in Florida has a baby jaguar, which brings the total number of jags to the zoo to an astounding eight! There are more of those cats there than at any other zoo in North America, and I wonder if there are many zoos worldwide that have that many of those gorgeous South American cats. I hope that the off-exhibit yards in Range of the Jaguar are large enough for the rotation of so many jaguars.

This is great news for both the Jacksonville Zoo and the jaguar population as a whole.
 
Great news!

While reading the article I was surprised to hear that it was the first Jaguar born since 1981. With that many Jaguars I thought that they had already had a birth.

That video is incredible! I didn't know anyplace had underwater jaguar viewing. I was also intrigued by a black jaguar and typical jaguar in together. That is one photo I have wanted for a long time. I have lots of black jaguar photos and lots of typical jaguar photos, but none of them together. Do they have both types on exhibit together every day, or only once in a while due to rotation? How many of their 8 jaguars are black?
 
@Arizona Docent: You know Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle has underwater jaguar viewing and so does Miami Metrozoo.
 
I did NOT know that. Thank you! I was at Woodland Park about a year before they opened their new jaguar exhibit and have never been to Miami (although it is high on my list).
 
There are pictures of the pools in both the Woodland Park and Miami photo galleries. Both are superb jaguar exhibits along with the Jacksonville Zoo's jaguar exhibit.
 
If you guys didn't know, the zoo is back to 7 jaguars due to the loss of Harry's Father Bruno. The zoo will most likely become 6 jaguars since Harry will probaly leave the zoo as well :(
