Chester Zoo Elephant Riva Hi Way has died

I’m surprised no one’s mentioned transferring the mother/daughter pair from Woburn. Is that feasible, as it does seem their long term plans for elephants haven’t materialised as they had wished.
They do appear like good candidates from outside looking in. I do note however the mother (Damini) for some reason, hasn't concieved in a decade. The same bull who sired her previous calf is still on site, so not sure there.

However her daughter (Tarli) is now ten, so of perfect age to begin breeding. The only repercussion here would be how their transfer may impact the other cows socially. If Whispnade's pair are already living separately, than they would make the most sense rather than this pair.

There are a decent number of mother-daughter pairs that could, in theory, make the move to Chester. Rani and Savani at Leipzig would also be a plausible pair. Although the Whipsnade and Woburn cows obviously have the advantage of being closer.

Could this thread maybe be renamed? It seems a little distasteful to say the least, especially given the time passed from that sad event.

I would think Chester Elephants would more than suffice, IMO.
Good idea..it jars each time I see it too.

I would just let it die off. There is already an Asian elephant in Europe 2024 group. There is really no need to continue this topic as there has been no announcement from the zoo.

Just my two cents.
