White Oak Conservation Center Elephants Are Coming To White Oak!

Are there any individuals in breeding age among them. And will they be (or are they already) part of a national breeding program?

Lol ironically the largest elephant that was there has already left. @nczoofan your right, you got to love the media lol
Who is the largest elephant? From some research a few years ago I know they have/had bulls Osgood, Romeo, Smoky & Barack. Any others? Feel free to fill me in. I read that a couple elephants are too elderly and or handicapped (one is blind) to make the move. This is great and brings up the number of large elephant facilities in the US in addition to others like the Endangered Ark Foundation (Hugo, OK), Riddles Elephant Sanctuary (Quitman, AR), The Elephant Sanctuary (Hohenwald, TN), & Two Tails Ranch (Williston, FL).

Hank at Columbus. Also he's not the tallest, just the fattest. Also technically he's never been a Ringling elephant. He was born at Busch Gardens, and has bounced around quite a few different facilities, but never at ringling.

If only I was alive when he was exhibited at Bronx...

Best news for the AZA Asiatic elephant program in this decade to be!

I am so glad that Ringling - already a very active, if not the most important participant in the North American conservation breeding program - has chosen White Oak's facilities over any other mainland zoo.

I never would have expected them to send them out to an elephant "sanctuary" given their bad rep on captive-breeding and conservation ethics.

Together with the other recent moves from Ringling to other zoos around the US, it means all 37 elephants continue to be in active AZA facilities. Yay!!!

@Hyak_II Hanks definitely the fattest
The CEC still currently holds Vance, Charlie, Casey, Oz, PT, Gunther, Irvin and Rocky
How big are these bulls height and weight wise? Also, do you think that White Oak will continue the research that the CEC began as to why elephants don't get cancer?

I remember seeing Hank online for the first time when he came to Columbus from Riddle's in 2012. My first thought was "he's as fat as an American Mastodon!" Nice to know he's on a diet now.

It will be very interesting to find out which elephants are still alive and whether any calves were born during that time. They should have 11 elephants over 50 years old. (the oldest would be Mysore-72 years)
