Ellen Trout Zoo Ellen Trout Zoo News

Fascinating! I wonder how many they have and why they are breeding them, and if any other zoos are as well.

Apparently, they have actually had four births over the course of the last year, bringing their numbers to 2.5. They are also held at Lowry Park (2.8) and Zoo Miami (1.2), with Lowry Park also breeding and Miami set up to do so. It appears that the population is young and growing quickly... Hopefully some additional facilities will show interest as their numbers grow.

As do I! The decision was made long ago to stop breeding the species in the AZA, and I know the other holders have complied. However, Ellen Trout Zoo bred them in 2014 and this year. Perhaps the decision was reversed? I know this has happened in other ungulates (primarily wild cattle) recently.

Just saw Kudu21 posted from alerts. Exciting developments!

Very interesting developments indeed. I have some doubts about the sustainability of breeding 5 duiker species in the AZA, but I suppose they'll deal with that wall when and if they come to it.

I have 2 questions, Do the clouded leopard Cubs born in 2018 are still on the Ellen Trout Zoo or have they left? And the male clouded leopard from where it came from?
