Encyclopaedia of Zoos

I stumbled across a fantastic set of books in the University Library today, 3 volumes with most of the world's famous zoos listed (many with b+w photos), and lots of information about their history and focus. It also has most animal species listed with examples of how they've been exhibited, when they were first brought into captivity etc.

Just wondered if anyone actually owned these books?

I looked up Chester and it had an amazing photo of how the chimp facilities once were, with the enclosures in the Tropical realm. I couldn't quite imagine it till I saw it.

If anyone is interested I'll get them out and scan a few pages.

I have thought about buying these books, but since they are quite expensive, i have to know more about them before i do.

i have read a few reviews of this set and there are quite a few editorial mistake littered through the books, but yet it is a set i would love to have.

More than interested, YES please :D

Got the books, anyone want anything in particular? Found your WPZ, no photos unfortunately but I'll see if I can scan the entries...

Hi Chris, If you are generally interested in the focus of zoos, you might want to take a look at the The “What Could Zoos Be…?” Forum. and you can download the 2004 Manifesto for Zoos from my own website John Regan Associates

Best, John
