Entrance Species - Which are in your local zoo?

The last few zoos I've been to all have their meerkat enclosures as either the first thing you see when you go in, or very close to the entrance. It's understandable, meerkats are very popular, but it does get a bit samey. One zoo near me, the Lake District Wildlife Park in the North of England, has South American tapirs as their entrance exhibit, and if you're lucky you can actually see the tapirs as you're walking down the path to the visitor entrance, before you've actually entered the site.

Turtleback: Koi
Bergen County: Macaws
Bronx: California sea lions/American bison/Dromedary camels
Central Park: California sea lions
Queens: Waterfowl
Prospect Park: California sea lions
Staten Island: Aquarium/Savannah animals

Chester Zoo has Asian elephants, you can actually view them and their indoor housing without paying. I think it's a pro to have an iconic species as the first thing you see, to the average folk that is a brilliant start to a zoo day.

Toronto hasn't had an entrance exhibit in some time. Used to be a pathetic, archaic bald eagle... oh lets just call it what it was cage. Thankfully they knocked it down oh nearly 10 years ago but nothing replaced it. A new entrance is coming and at first it was going to be North American river otters. They we got teased with the possibility of sea otters and penguins. Now we are sad and back to river otters. We shall see what happens when its ultimately done though. Would be nice to have a cool entrance exhibit to welcome guests.

At Franklin Park Zoo in the front of what is known as the “Zebra Entrance” has the children’s zoo on your left and on your right exhibits for Cape Porcupines, Warthogs, and a big exhibit for Hartmann’s Mountain Zebras, White Bearded Wildebeests, and Ostriches.
In the other entrance known as the “Giraffe Entrance,” Bird’s World is on your right and the hyenas are right in front of you as you walk in.
