I understand this new region of the zoo will open this year with Orangutan, Gibbon, Leopards, Sun Bears, etc.

Does anyone have additional information or plans regarding this new exhibit? What other species will it have?

I would also be very interested to know more about this new theme! I would especially like to know when it opens, since I might be visiting ZOOM this year...

In Zoom-Asian there will be a grad house with a restaurant, a playground and an enclosure for Orang-Utan.
Gelsenkirchen will keep two groups of Orangs. Besides in Asian the zoo build of hulmans, red pandas, Oriental Small-clawed Otter and Bactrian camel.
No elephants, no tigers, no leopards which were planned at the beginn of the great rebuild of the zoo.

The zoo's website suggests that the opening date for Asia is now 2010 - shame as I will be visiting in May and I was hoping to see the completed zoo.

I was there for the press-presentation. It'll be great Loaded some pics of the Orang-Enclosure in the gallary.

It is just such a shame that a large part of it will be an indoor playground. I found the chimpanzee house in ZOOM to be a very noisy place because of that!

The playground is in a seperate room (850m²) in the tropical-hall. Complete seperate, with a own entrance and no direct connection to the bigger part of the hall.

That's better Though I still don't approve of the concept. Will the tropical hall hold any other species, specifically reptiles and amphibians as ZOOM seriously lacks these?

Yes it will, f.e. Derbyan Parakeets and Sulawesi Ground-Dove.

Seven orang-utans have arrived from Basel zoo, to take up residence, while their own home in the ape house is upgraded.

Eagle any chance of a small review of what you thought as I'd still love to visit on my next trip to Germany.
