Essex: Animal park faces closure threat

The number of animals they have is largely irrelevant. From looking at their website and list of animals they don't appear to have any animals that require DWA license and the majority of the animals they keep are domestic animals. It is seems to be basically a farm park with a few exotics.

I personally don't really think this place should need a zoo license.

The cost of a zoo licence will vary depending on which local authority is involved, the local authority also issue the "Performing Animal License". The intention to open a display facility has to be advertised in the press prior to applying etc.

The cost of a zoo licence will be around £475 minimum, up to £1,250 - £1,500, depending on the number of inspectors and visits.

The cost of meeting any conditions that the Inspector requires might be much much higher.
A number of animal shelters around the country have had to close in similar situations.

They keep many domestic and farm animals, and a few birds of prey and owl species. When I last went they had a very active red squirrel.

You could only really spend a max of 2 hours there and has strong competition with Colcheste Zoo just down the road and other petting zoos/small farms in the area.

I also have no idea why there is a picture of a rhino in the article.
