Planning a trip to Europe in 2022, and wanted to get some ideas on places to see while there. My two main focuses are zoos with reptile houses, and top-notch aquariums.

If you had to go one place to see a massive reptile collection, and one place to see a world-class aquarium - where would you go?

The best reptile collections in Europe are places like Plzen, Nockalm, Wroclaw and Berlin to an extent.

The best aquariums are L'Oceanografic, Lisbon Oceanario, Nausicaa and Den Bla Planet.
If you want a more complete answer, feel free to DM me. :)

Just to be clear, these are not the collections I'd advise you to visit when going to Europe but based on your preferences this is the best I could think of. Berlin perhaps combines both into a single building and is worth a visit in itself so I think it may be your best bet :).

I agree with amur leopard on his choices, probably with Berlin Zoo ahead.

Other:

The 1 day combination of the Serpentarium at Blankenberge and the Antwerp Zoo (with a small but excellent reptile house, and with a classical aquarium (with about 400 species)) is another possibility.

Burgers' Zoo in the Netherlands has a quite spectacular aquarium.

Cologne also has extensive Aquarium and Reptile House.

Many European traditional zoos present a full range of all classes of vertebrates.
I would recommend checking Zootierliste in terms of species numbers and preferences.

Consider visiting Schönbrunn Zoo in Vienna/Austria.

Very charming zoo that offers both classical historic architecture of strong old-world charm with progressive animal exhibitry and care. You get popular species like pandas, orangs, elephants or hippo, and smaller often unique species of birds and reptiles.

If you combine it with sight-seeing of Vienna city, it makes for splendid long family weekend. Vienna has busy airport and probably the most efficient public transport in Europe, it´s ideal for first-time overseas visitors. Vienna also has cheap and quick connections to other European cities via budget airlines and trains (some over-night). It´s just few hours away from Alps, Carpathians, or Hungarian steppe plains so a good starting point for some wildlife/birdwatching tours.
