I do believe the Alpenzoo only keeps species that are or have been native to Austria, although they may not still be found in the wild in the country.
I went there about 15 years ago now and loved the place. It proves a European themed exhibit can work as the whole place is one.
It is also the only zoo where I have seen several species such as chamois, ibex and moose. Chamois could make a really popular exhibit for a zoo.
