European crane re-introduction

Will be interesting to see which parts of the UK (and Ireland) will be colonised by cranes in the future. I can imagine they could grow to +1000 pairs in Scotland alone. But it will take time - surveys in Germany show average crane population growth around 7% annually in situation of good protection and enough available space.
 
While not part of the reintroduction in Somerset, I saw this crane news that I thought was worth sharing here.

A crane chick has hatched at Wicken Fen in Cambridgeshire, the first in at least 120 years (although the National Trust, who run the site, think it could actually be the first to hatch there in 500 years).
