Some updates on Asian Elephants in the UK and Ireland

Dublin Zoo is importing 0:0:2 Elephants from Mysore Zoo, India later this year :)

Pregnancy of Azizah at Whipsnade confirmed :) due date unknown at this time.

Sithami at Chester is due to give birth in next few weeks.

Is one of these the long awaited new bull?



I could think of another great swap with Mysore Zoo over black rhinos too (for Indians or whites)?!!

Gender has not been confirmed yet but I would hazard a guess that they will be 1:1. They are only juvenile's though so if one is a male then Dublin would still need to loan a mature bull until the new import reaches breeding age.

there is no truth in Dublin bringing in elephants from Mysore zoo,were did that come from!!anyways bull house will start in september and finish around Easter,zoo is waiting until summer season is over to start:cool:

It came from a news article in this paper. The article has suddenly vanished.....

It stated that Dublin were going to swap four cheetah in exchange for the pair. :confused:
 
its not true,Dublin zoo also has no cheetahs any more,so they have the wrong zoo,Dublin will hopefully get a bull elephant around easter time,but he will come from Europe
 
The article in question was put up on June 28, 2010.
It talks of 4 cheetahs - quite separate to a pair of Indian lions (ex Junagadh Zoo) - in exchange for a pair of elephants from Dublin Zoo in a couple of months.

Either there is a mix up or a mistake in translation. I suspect the talked about zoo is Dvur Kralove in Czech Republic (and not Dublin).

So, you are both a little bit right ... (and dirty harry more so) ;)

What would a zoo that specialises in african wildlife and holds african elephants do with 2 asian elephants?
 
that's terrible! I remember reports that she fell into the moat before.

A male Asian Elephant calf was born just before midnight on 18th July 2010 to mother Sithami and father Upali at Chester Zoo. Mother and baby are apparently doing well :) this is the second calf for both parents although this is there first baby together.

On Sunday Califa at Hannover Zoo in Germany has given birth to her first calf, a healthy male. It's the third calf that has been born at Hannover Zoo this year so far.
 
It's good that another one of the calves is male then in about 5-6 years time Nuka will have a companion to come with him to a new zoo. ( I presume)

I hope the next two calves are females.
 
In May,on the forum Les Zoos dans le Monde,I've read that female elephant Rupa from Bruges zoo should have been sent in Naples zoo in future.Does someone knows when or if she will be transferred to Naples.
 
For the record, it's Rupa at Burgers' Zoo in Arnhem. She's the female that came from Riga together with Radza who went to Emmen. She's been fighting with Pinky ever since she's at Burgers and i've also heared she will be moved, but I don't know when...
