Frankfurt haven't had the best Cup, and it is probably safe to say that they will be progressing no further - however, this match provides one final chance for the collection to depart with some pride and dignity intact, and obtain a single victory. The question is whether the category of TROPICAL FOREST is capable of giving them that small fragment of solace, or whether Burgers will continue their current winning streak......

As always, you lot will decide one way or another :)

I reckon the crux of this one will come down to two points; how well Frankfurt fares as regards category species and exhibits, and precisely how much weight should be placed on the excellent Bush exhibit at Burgers (and also, possibly, whether aspects of Mangrove are also relevant).

For now, I shall vote 4:1 in favour of Burgers given the fact that Bush is my favourite of the three major tropical rainforest exhibits in European collections by quite some margin, and await further information and arguments relating to Frankfurt :) as always, I am entirely happy to modify my vote depending on how the discussion progresses!

Tropical Forest is the ultimate Burgers category with Bush and Rimba among the best Tropical displays on the continent.
Frankfurt has many species that fits in this category, but is far from Burger's excellence. 4:1 is a fair score, I believe.

If 'tropical forest' means forests within tropical regions, then I guess Burgers mangrove counts too.

Burgers has the better bird collection and the better exhibits, while Frankfurt has a (far) better mammal collection (bonobo, Sumatran orangutan, okapi, red river hog, yellow-backed duiker, aardvark, sengi, collared mangabey, night monkey, Javan chevrotain, echidna, golden lion tamarin, etc).

With the Bush, Mangrove (which bar the aquatic bit should count), Rimba and the ape exhibits there is a whole lot of excellence at Burgers'.

This wouldn't have been a bad category for Frankfurt with the excellent Borgoriwald, which is in my opinion the best great ape house in Europe and a varied mammal, bird and reptile collection throughout the zoo in less memorable enclosures. Though the fossa and rusty-spotted cat exhibits in the cat house are very nice with their height and natural vegetation. I am a fan of the reptile exhibits in the Exotarium too. But many of the mammal enclosures are simply ok and the bird house is also not my cup of tea.

All in all there is very little most zoos could do against Burgers' in this category....

I guess there's technically FIVE huge European jungle rainforest complexes and Burgers' Bush easily wins this category. It's a bit unfortunate for Frankfurt, as the great ape house is terrific and yet this zoo is getting bounced out of the competition early.

Wildlands Adventure Zoo Emmen's Jungola - 18,000 square metres (23 metres high)
Leipzig Zoo's Gondwanaland - 16,500 square metres (34 metres high)
Burgers' Zoo's Bush - 15,000 square metres (20 metres high)
Zurich Zoo's Masoala - 11,000 square metres (30 metres high)
Beauval Zoo's Tropical Dome - 8,000 square metres (38 metres high)

Soon to be SIX when Pairi Daiza opens whatever the heck the 'Sanctuary' is going to be. ;)

The results were clear right from the beginning - but the discussion was nonetheless enjoyable:

Frankfurt - 28/115 points - 24.348%
Burgers - 87/115 points - 75.652%
