This has not been a terribly good Cup for Frankfurt, with three fairly heavy losses to its name - but it gets another chance at redemption here, coming face to face with Cologne in the category of GRASSLANDS AND DESERT.

Time will tell which will come out on top - I have a feeling this one might be ripe for a fair bit of discussion and debate!

I think this (much like the other match) isn't a great category for either contender, but I reckon Cologne may have the edge - for now, I shall start things off with a 3:2 vote for said collection :)

Cologne moved their Black Rhino at new more adequate exhibit. The Hippo house is fairly strong asset, refurbished Lion exhibit as well. They have good collection of Equids, Antelopes and not so appealing Giraffe "Urban Jungle".

Not the strongest Cologne card, but they are lucky to draw another city zoo Frankfurt, which exhibits in this category passed their time, unfortunately. The Rhino, Hippo and Giraffe facilities need to give a way to the new Masterplan. Their Addax exhibit is nice, tho and they have few interesting species in the Grzimek's and Bird house.

I will vote 3:2 for now, mostly because Cologne is not very convincing.

As the one zoo of the two I've been to, I recall Cologne's Grassland and Desert line-up to be... simply alright, I guess. My only real memory was their giraffe and impala exhibit, which was pretty neat... although at a glance, both species appear to have been removed from the collection since.

Sorry, I've got little to vouch on this time.

I really love the addax exhibit because it is the only exhibit I know (and seen) myself that doesn’t mix any of the three Saharan hoofstock conservation successes (dama gazelle, addax, and the scimitar horned oryx, two of which Frankfurt keeps) with species from other parts of Africa to fill in the antelope slot. I can imagine why the zoo wouldn’t want to to add in scimitar horned oryx and finish the trifecta of Saharan ungulates conservation successes, but I feel like it would be nice if the zoo had a North African ostrich to spice things up.

I also want to bring up the Lycaon/African wild dog exhibit. While it’s not a bad enclosure I don’t really like it myself. It doesn’t stand out feels easily forgettable, which is why I can’t blame you for not bringing it up in your post. Feel free to call this a nitpick since this may as well be applicable to tons of other zoo animals around the world, but I rather see this species in a more expansive enclosure in a zoo out side a city rather than one cornered in the city like Frankfurt Zoo is. I won’t be sad once this enclosure is gone to make way for the masterplan.

Any further thoughts or votes? I'd be interested to hear from @Baumi regarding their reasoning as the outlier vote, too!

A rather quiet and uneventful match, but it ended with another win for one of the dark horses of the Cup....

Frankfurt - 38/95 points - 40.000%
Cologne - 48/95 points - 60.000%
