Honest question, have they actually ever bred one of these rare parrots. I believe not and the the young Spix macaws that were raised came from ACTP if I remember correctly...

I could have sworn I've seen news posts in the past about Pairi having bred the amazons at least, but now I'm not finding anything...

Thank you to you and @lintworm for the correction! I'm on the fence about switching my vote to 4/1 in of Leipzig now, knowing that. The connection with ACTP does give me pause on giving Pairi 2 points, however what they're doing with the Spix's Macaws still leaves me wanting to give them some more credit.

Just shy of four hours for you to make your mind up one way or another! :p:D

Leipzig have the better enclosures and mammal collection whereas Pairi Daiza have the better bird collection. i would of given it 4/1 to Leipzig but due to the rarity's that Pairi Daiza houses such as Spix Macaw, Lear Macaw, St. Vincent Parrot and St Lucia Parrot to name a few. Also Pairi Daiza are getting a few more South American species in the next few years due to the new tropical house so this could change the landscape regarding this category.

A reminder of the rules:

Future plans and developments at a collection are out of bounds for consideration, and it is the current status quo which we are discussing and voting on. For instance, if either Pairi Daiza or Beauval were to be assigned the category of "Primates" at some point, the upcoming Golden Snub-nosed Monkeys would not be permissible as a reason to vote for them until they have actually arrived. Similarly, if a large area is currently under construction or redevelopment, it is ineligible for consideration.

:)

Something of a heavy blow to the Belgian collection, although there is still plenty of time and opportunity for a comeback - and equally, Leipzig is far from assured of an easy ride from here on:

Pairi Daiza - 43/145 points - 29.655%
Leipzig - 102/145 points - 70.345%

Sorry i wrote that wrong. What i was trying to suggest was that if this tie happened in the future it could be a very different discussion and that my vote was only considering the current species and quality of exhibits that both zoos offer regarding the subject.

In this case absence of evidence is evidence of absence. If Pairi Daiza would have had any breeding success, you can rest assured that the rest of the world would know ;)

Oh I agree. I very vividly remember seeing a post years ago with some chicks announcing the breeding of both Caribbean species, but perhaps that was for the ACTP instead. Either way, I was clearly wrong on that point.
