European Themed Section In Zoos

There is no agreement between AZA and EAZA that EAZA zoos willl not exhibit animals from the other continent. But EAZA wants zoos to focus on endangered animals, and many of the species that visitors would find interesting (bears, coyote, wolf, bison, Canadian otters) are not only non-endangerd, but also very similar to their European counterparts. So why spend space and money on these species, better to take the European. Sainte Croix (F) has both the European as the US species: European brown bears/US black bears; arctic+European+timberwolves and coyotes; wisent and US bison.
The reason that few zoos exhibit capercaillies is that they are very difficult to keep, you need very hygienic enclosures that are less attractive for visitors.

The agreement has been highlighted as nonbinding, which means anyone can act as they please if a change of mind occurs; it has certainly not stopped interested people in doing so.
