This has come up in another thread.

Are people interested in a European Zoo Tour?

I was going to suggest tours that l have done.

Would actually be interested to hear.

What would be peoples "dream tour?"

The guidelines are 14 nights travelling starting in London. 3-4 star accomadation.

Probably include a couple of 3-4 day bus tour days. Given how close some of the great European zoos are. Otherwise flying from city to city.

I am in the wholesale travel industry so we could make this happen!:D

I also believe given my own zoo contacts and other peoples. We could get some great behind the scene tours.

Just to be clear to the cynical out there. I would cost this so that l make no profit out of it.
 
As mentioned before, I'd be interested . I'm very keen to visit Apenheul, Duisberg, Munster, Paris....... basically any zoo with orangutans!

Hi Gigit, looks like its just you and me ;]

Realisticly a group of 6 and we could start looking at some deals.

Mind you l have not been to Duisberg or Munster.....

I actually DID a mini "Dream Tour" of European Zoos last October. I started with the historical Budapest Zoo, then did the huge Prague Zoo, then up to Berlin for back-to-back days at the Berlin Zoo and Tierpark Berlin. Both are absolutely huge and amazing! I finally finished up in Vienna for a tour of the world's oldest zoo, Schonbrunn. I believe this may be the continent's only zoo with both pandas and koalas.

Ohhh...sounds fun! I'm so jealous on this end! Thanks zooman- if it's within my budget I'll definetely try and make it out :)

Be nice to have some of the zoochat forumsters get out on the wheel and go over Europe just zooooing along. :D

What about itinerary? Would it include the UK and West-Central Europe?
Major zoos to look at: Chester, Edinburgh, Marwell, Overloon, Gaiapark, Muenster, Duisburg, Hamburg, Berlin (Zoo + Tierpark), Leipzig, Usti, Praha, Zlin, Ostrava, Wien, Schmiding, Salzburg, Basel, Zuerich, Wroclaw, Poznan and back via France ...

What about it?
 
Its a great idea, hopefully zooman will get back after the weekend with there idea and rough price, like they said
 
If you visit some zoos in france too, dont forget Doue La Fontaine zoo, and CERZA zoo, Lille is also a beautiful little zoo, and... Beauval... :)

What l would need to know as it makes a huge differance in $$.

Do people expecta fully escorted tour?
Transfers from airport to hotel.
Zoo transfers.
5 star or 3 star accomadation.
travel insurance.
Zoo entrance fees.
Bus and driver for 16 days

Al of above 3-4 star acc we could expect a 16 night tour. 200 - 250 euro per night
 
backpackers for 20€ per night... or formule1 hotels for 30€ per night up to 3 people per room... you can find cheaper than 200€ per night...


For the entrance zoo fee, you can have group rates if you send previous email...

I'm not planning to come to that trip as I already know a lot of zoos but you can definitely find cheaper than that...dont know what is your "label" but I organise my trip for not that much... especially accomodation.


but, if people wants to pay 200€ per night...thats fair enough !

if you have a bus and driver for 16 days then that surely also covers the transfers for airport to hotel, and to the zoos -- there's no point paying for taxis or whatever when you've already got the bus!
So the costs involved are basically the bus hire, accommodation, insurance, zoo entry fees (and I'm sure with the contacts on here many of those could be reduced or even eliminated in some cases), and food.
 
The price tag at the moment is a bit steep. I am sure that on a shared acco basis you can get middle range hotel rates for much less. On average a single does EUR 60-70, if shared acco that cost is so much less. For transport I am sure you can hire a van-minibus for much less too.

If the price tag would be in the EUR 70-125 range it would be worth everyone's while! So, I guess ... ;)

Hi matey, l had asked for othere peoples ideas.No response!!
Actually allot of travellers on such a trip would budget at 300 euro per day.

As you suggest it could also be done with acc at 20-30 euro per night

Hi Chlidonias, Would you honestly consider coming on a European Zoo Tour? Or r u just looking to comment?

As the tour could as suggested start in London. It is unlikely that a bus is going to make maybe 6 return trips to Heathrow to a Hotel. At the start of the tour. Airport transfers are always considerd by travellers even thoose joinging tours!

Yes of course costs can alays be reduced they could also be doubled and still considered reasonable.

Taking into cnsideration that some of the travellers may be of a certain age. They may not be interested in cheaper accomodation.

Thanks for the feedback jelle. This is what l wanted to hear after the first posting. Maybe l was not clear.

If you were comfortable with shared accomadation and no flights on tour. This $ price might be possible.

Insurance wise it is sensible to have a profesional driver and bus. Still very affordable for a group.

I was thinking of including both Berlin and Valencia Biopac. They would have involved flights and transfers.

Once again thanks jelle for you honest $ feedback.

are you being a smartarse or something? You have a very abbrasive manner. I was just pointing out that transfers between zoos shouldn't be an added cost because there is already a bus and driver in your scenario (the bit about airport transfers being unnessecary was my mistake)
