Toronto Zoo Exhibits!!

Oh ok. But will the scimitar-horned Oryx's get a new exhibit after the eurasia reno's because I think at least one will still be around. I don't think they would if they're a phase-out species, but i'm not sure.

I wouldn't think so, if the zoo still has one I think they may put them in another feild where the animals are abandoned and no longer using it or possibly put them in a mixed species exhibit?

There is always the possiblility that the zoo will aquire more because zoos in North America may have a higher population of them. Its a dream cause I do like them, they are very unique.

Anything's possible. They certainatly are unique. They're the animals that started the unicorn myths.

At one point, the zoo had a large breeding herd back in the 80's and early 90's

The zoo has to abandon this species because since they are a desert species, they are used to very warm climate. During the harsh winters, The zoo began having problems with there horns breaking from the cold so they had to be locked inside for up to eight months

The zoo did construct a new barn for the time until they do pass but after they do die, the zoo doesn't want to acquire anymore

(I think the same problem happened with the gemsbok)

I would love that too! Most new exhibits being built have multi-species and rotational exhibits. I would love to have something like that in our zoo, especially in the African area or the Indo-Malayan region.

Definately :D I was also thinking of what could be mixed with reindeer. Hmm . . .

Oh, and another species I thought of that could fit in that mountainy area? Ptarmigan! I think they'd do OK with Snowshoe Hares.

Kori Bustards and/or Francolins could probably fit in with the Impala/Kudu. Can Sable Antelope be safely mixed with anything? I was thinking of Thomson's Gazelles or similar for them.

Some sort of asian deer species with the indian rhino and gaur would be nice as the muntjacs have all died (blackbuck, muntjac, tufted deer, fallow, sambar, nilgai, elds, barashinga and goitered are the ones that come to mind)

Also, some sort of crane species would nice within them as well (sarus and wattled come to mind)

Oh man . . . So many species could fit in with those guys, especially if/when they get expanded. It's making me want to have that area redone all the more.

I think the zoo should aquire some more muntjac, they were always of interest for people.

An expanded Indian Rhino exhibit would be good the extra room to carry two females or more could work out well for the furture like they have done at Whipsnade zoo

Agreed Mark, although the zoo has so many projects on the go right now that this would be years away :( Good idea though

And about the muntjac, I think the zoo was in the process of phasing them out but Im not quite sure

Whilst reading this muntjac disscussion, I remember that the muntjac pair we recently had were held in different enclosures (one in the indian rhino exhibit, the other in the gaur exhibit)

They had a fawn in winter 2008 (Might have been winter 2007) but it did'nt survive
