This is probably going to sound uneducated, but if they can import specimins, and breeding of North Chinese leopards has all but stopped in the US, couldn't they export to Europe (like a trade)? Although I have no idea what the situation is in Europe with NCLs though.
I have wondered this aswell Jacobea, i too am not fully educated on the North Chinese Leopard SSP, but there seems to be a few good breeding pairs throughout Europe. It was in the news earlier this year that a zoo in Germany just had two new cubs born, and two facilities in the UK both recieved North Chinese Leopards from abroad over 2007 & 2008, all for breeding purposes... Without wanting to offend, it seems as if the EFBC is 'giving up' on this species for no apparent reason...
