Auction closes on June 4. For around $6000 you can own your own piece of extinction history:

Bonhams 1793 : Taxidermic Extinct Passenger Pigeon

Note the footnote - cannot be exported from the USA. That's the only thing stopping me from bidding.

:p

If someone here successfully bids on this bird, can figure out how to bioengineer a viable egg, extract some viable genomic DNA, and has a spare billion dollars for a recreational cloning project then we may be in business to bring back the passenger pigeon:).

And then what? Your countrymen will "recreationally" hunt them to extinction again. :D

More likely we would send them over to Australia as stealth-drones to poop on wiseguy nano-technologists.

Ah. A past life. :D I love you guys by the way - the US Army paid my salary for 4 years, so I merely jest. If any of you guys at Langley are listening, I love you very much, and you know I just like joking around, right? YOU-ESS-A! YOU-ESS-A! :D
