In this thread I will mention some very interesting point about the Toronto Zoo instead of typing them all out at once, so hopefully once a week I will post something new maybe even have a few facts. Comments are welcome and I would love to have discussion here.

First Lot:
African Pavilion Mammals:

Acquire:
- A new breeding pair of red river hogs, surplusing current pair. Getting some new genetics!
- A new group of Slender-tailed Meerkats, more breeding, old group will be moved as it is diffucult to mix groups.

Surplus:
- Red River Hogs
- 1.3 Warthogs
- 1.0 Mandrill
- Phase out Egyption Geese

Great idea!

Very happy to see the possibility of new babies, although seeign Simon and Sabrina go will be sad
 
I meant to say week but since I am extreamly bored I will post some more.

Plans to breed:
- Gorilla
- Pygmy Hippo
- Red River Hog
- Warthog
- Mole Rat
- Spotted Necked Otter

Improvements:
- the zoo does plan on having an outdoor mandrill exhibit, however I do not know if it will be apart of the plan for the pavilion right now
- there will be a variety of small animal exhibits place throughout the pavilion once construction is finished.

Future Species:
- possibly a species to mix with gorillas
- Blue Duiker is on the list to bring in

African Pavilion Reptiles and Amphibians:

Remove:
- Hingeback Tortoises?
- Ornate Nile Monitor
- Nile Soft Shell?
- Royal Python?

Aquire:
- Madagascan Lizards
- Large Chameleon
- Gaboon Viper

Breed:
- Dwarf Crocs when needed
- Veiled Chameleon
- Pyxis Tortoises
- Radiated Tortoises (one of my fav. species)

Future Species:
- Large Chameleons
- Spiny Iguana
- Gaboon Viper
- Day Geckos
- Spray Toads
- Nile or narrow snouted croc.
- Nile monitor
- Aldabra Tortoise
- Nile Shoftshell Turtle underwater exhibit
- South African Veldt
- Sahara Desert Reptiles
 
By the time Ngozi's baby is around two years of age, Ngozi could very well be pregnant again

Fred and Ginger (spotted necked otters) are fairly old so I'm thinking they'll need to acquire a new breeding pair

Colobus, debrazza's monkey, swamp monkey and many other animals could easily mix with gorillas (More climbing structures for the indoor area would be needed though)

Blue duiker were originally planned for the new Gorilla Rainforest, but were cancelled. Would be nice to acquire some sort of duiker species though, maybe even as a free roaming (inside of the pavilion) animal
 
The ? marks above are reference to "might be staying, may be going"

Some of the above exhibits and animals may take years to put in place but its what is planned.

If you have any questions please ask, I can give very detailed answers.
 
Aldabra tortoise would be nice to re-acquire (Maybe a possible mix of red river hog/aldabra tortoise)

Bongo's would be another good one to re-acquire (Move Shaka the zebra to the main exhibit and place bongo's there with some slight renovations)

Okapi would be amazing, the old ostrich exhibit would work (Move the ostrich to the mixed field area) with some slight renovations. Some sort of mixed exhibit could be possible
 
The Aldabra tortoises if aquired will be placed in there own exhibit. ie. just outside the pavilion or in the kids zoo.

In order to exhibit any species overwinter in the old gnu exhibit the current building will have to be torn down because it is unable to house animals during the winter (no heat)

Okapi have also been planned to be aquired with the giraffe house renovations. Also depending on capital budget, as well as an outdoor mandrill exhibit. +
 
Great plans! As I love to see any old-school species coming back at the zoo, I would love to see the Aldabra Tortoises return!
 
Yes so would I, but the bad news is that they are a long term consideration.
 
This is true. Really glad to see Okapi and Blue Duiker on the list, too! Spray Toads are neat, just looked them up. I wonder where the Nile Croc would go? Naked Mole Rat area?

- Depends on space after renovations
- More Madagascan Species

- various Madagascan species and other fish upon availability

Future Species:
- L. Malawi fish
- Madacasgan Species
- River Species

African Pavilion Birds and Invertabrarte:

Aquire:
- Giant Land Snails
- Giant Millipedes
- Madagascan Hissing Cocroaches
- Emperor Scorpions
- Assasin Bugs
- Hamerkop
- Black Crake
- Blue-billed Finch
- Royal Starlings
- Blue-billed Roller
- Common Hoopoe
- Yellow-bills or Comb Duck or Spur-winged Geese
- Buffalo Weavers
- Peter's Twinspot Finches
- Francolin and Wood Hoopoe
- A pair of Wattled Cranes on their way

Id seems that the African Pavilion is taking a dive towards more Madagascan Species, I think that the Pavilion will look really good when its done, and I have yet to be disippointed with any renovation.

Madagascan fish (and species of any type) would be nice, as we have barely any from the "8th" Continent
 
I have updated the last portion of the African Pavilion a lot of species comming, the biodiversity of this pavilion seems like its going to soar! The hoopoe species of birds look fairly interesting! :)
 
So, I have decided that every Monday will be the Fact of the Week day, so here is today's fact!

African Savanna Mammals:
Surplus:
- 1.0 Mandril
- 2.0 Caracals (to be replaced with a smaller cat species)
- 3.1 Lions (Possibly to be replaced with white lions)
- 0.2 Kudu, was supposed to go to African Lion Safari?

Aquire:
- 0.1 Kudu (new genetics)
- 0.2 White Rhino

Breed:
- Cheetah
- Olive Baboon
- White Rhino
- Sable Antelope
- Kudu
- Grevy's Zebra

Future Projects and Animals:
- Elephant Feasiblity Project - includes Elephants. Maybe new exhibits for Hippo and Warthog, might mix all 3?
- New Giraffe building and exhibit, possibly tie in Okapi
- Cheetah Yard Expansion
- Replacement of old gnu exhibit
Animals:
- African Wild Dogs - replace hyena
- White Lions
- Okapi
- Small cat species to replace Caracal
 
I LOVE African Wild Dogs, glad to see them in the plans :D I'll miss the hyenas, though :( Are we now down to one hyena? For the past two trips, I've only seen one unless his buddy's hiding.

I think white lions are gorgeous, but from a SSP standpoint, wouldn't it be better to get some wild lion blood (maybe "problem" lions?) for fresh blood?

I wonder what new cat species they'll be getting. African Wild Cat? Black-footed? Serval? African Golden?
 
I will miss the Hyenas to. We have two hyenas now. As for the rest I do not know what the plans are, again the are just "plans"
 
Very good looking plan there!

I think the Kudu who would be leaving is Frank (2008 calf) and this years calf once shes a bit older
 
We will be the first if everythign follows suit, Calgary has been showing extreme intrest in them, but the closest thing they have are bongo
