That fanakola is hard to believe, but the place seems to be for real. If you type in their web URL listed on the animal sale link already posted, you get a photo of their exotic pet store in Lubbock, Texas.

Walter's World of Pets About Us

A google search lists some reviews, which could be faked, but I doubt it as there are a couple of negative reviews as well. There are a lot of internet scams involving exotic animal sales (the Feline Conservation Federation has done some reports on this). They invariably involve wiring money to insure an animal import. But this seems to be a bonafide USA store, so it may be for real.

Perhaps I need to email them to see if I can order a marbled cat or bay cat! ;)

apparently they can "special order just about anything". Maybe they can get you a marbled cat!

Wonder how much a proven breeding pair of Javan rhinos will set me back, think I may order 4.4 in the name of genetic diversity :p

In seriousness, I can't take it seriously when people say they can get you just about anything, if they CAN get it no doubt the largest portion is WC and imported illegally - I can't imagine they can legally get any Galapagos species :p

Hmmm, reading this thread I had my confidence sapped as to what this animal (that I only heard about relatively recently) is actually called!

Fanaloka for sale

Some fascinating stuff on that link, but horrified to see a Serval advertised as 'front & back declawed'.

The store is for real. It's in Lubbock Texas. Been there quite a few times. Really small place with many interesting animals.

there's a chap on this thread saying the store had a fanaloka for sale in 2010 as well, also for $1000: http://www.zoochat.com/1517/fanaloka-asian-palm-civet-exhibit-232880/

I actually emailed the store when the current thread started to enquire about it, but I didn't get any response.

Great minds think alike as I also emailed the store and there was no reply to my message either! (The link that you provided showed a $50 wooden cage for a $1,000 animal...what a shame.;))

Either this place is a complete sham/joke ... and if for real it is a darn damn shame. It is also strictly illegal to have W.C. fanaloka on sale. (alas sadly there is a loophole in judiciary circles once individual animals are out of Madagascar in any given country (vis a vis e.g. angonoko trade ... from Madagascar)).

Another concern being is that if W.C. I can only condone its sale when part and parcel of a quid pro quo in situ conservation project for the species and a BONA FIDE ex situ conservation breeding project supported by multiple zoologically accredited institutions.

Ok, thanks. For a minute there, I thought the animals were found in a British toilet (aka Water Closet)! ;)
