1.0 Tusker 01-01-92 He is a well mannered bull showing great assertive behavior without being aggressive towards his cows which is probably the reason why he is used as a savior bull bouncing between facilities, and he is a great father in his time in Wuppertal he showed appropriate behavior with his calves. 1.0 Tooth 01-01-92 A good looking bull but he does have a bit of a bad boy streak his aggressive behavior is reason while in Rhenen is the reason why he never got Duna pregnant, but at Wuppertal he has calmed down being a good bull with the herd their. I don't really know any bull elephants personally, but for my summer camp, I did get to work with the 5 females at Busch Gardens Tampa and they were really interesting.

I’m still surprised that no one here on the thread has talked, or even mentioned about 1.0 Ali 02-22-91 at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens yet. Sure, he may not have sired any calves in his life as of late, but as an elephant who was previously owned by the late Michael Jackson himself, escaped out of his enclosure once or twice, (I honestly don’t remember) and finally, for bearing out a single visible tusk on the (left?) side of his face. I definitely think that this bull should be at least worth giving out a mention, here on this thread, at some point in time.

Ok. I'll admit it. My Thisiam post several days ago probably sparked @Mr.Ivory to create this one.

I have put my favorites in different categories as I have numerous favorites:

My favorite wild African was Satao because of his long nearly perfect tusks.

My favorite captive African is Ali in Jacksonville. Regardless of having only one tusk, he is turning into a magnificent bull and may grow to get as large as Jumbo. Currently, he's started growing again and measures about 10'-10'6".

My favorite historic captive African is Jumbo because of his history and his potential to have grown to record size if he had lived longer.

Now for Asians:

My favorite wild Asian was Raja Gaj because of how big he was and how much he and his companion Kancha resembled the Asian Elephant's closest ancestor Elephas hysudricus.

Currently, my favorite wild Asian bull is Bhim Gaj who was chronicled in Animal Planet's Biggest & Baddest with Niall McCann. He has footprints 22" in diameter and is about 11' tall!

My favorite captive Asian is Dalip in Miami. He was the first Asian bull I can remember seeing in a zoo and thought I was in the Pleistocene. He has a downward sloping back like a mmamoth and really long tusks. He's one of the oldest bulls left in NA and hope he lives to at least 70. Plus, his and Nellie's love story is legendary Every year they look more and more alike. Relationship goals!!!

My 1st favorite historic captive Asian is the great Siam because of his remarkable history. He is I would say the closest thing you could get to comparing an elephant to a founding father. He's fondly remembered, you can see him at the Grand Gallerie de L'Evolution in Paris and eat at a restaurant Le Siam named in his honor at the Paris Zoo. Plus he has his own documentary and books have been written about him for children. Two so far in total. He's an absolute legend! In fact, he is the primary reason I will be visiting Paris again at some time in the future once COVID is done.

My 2nd favorite historic captive Asian is Bolivar who was in Adam Forepaugh's circus and then lived in the Philadelphia Zoo until 1908. Been a fan of his since 2012 and was lucky enough to see his skeleton at the Academy of Natural Sciences several years ago.

Runners up of all types living and deceased would be Boy from Kiev Zoo, Spike at Smithsonian's National Zoo, Packy from Oregon, and Willy at Cleveland Zoo.

Favourite Historic Bull

My favourite historic bull was an Asian elephant named Rajah, who lived at Auckland Zoo. He arrived as a 13 year old bull in 1930 and initially settled in well, proving good company to the zoo’s female elephant, Jamuna.

Before long, he became difficult to manage and was aggressive to staff and visitors. This lead to the decision in 1936 to shoot him, which was seen as the humane alternative to keeping him permanently in chains.

In retrospect, it’s obvious Rajah’s behaviour was due to musth cycles and Rajah was probably no more unmanageable than any other young bull.

Auckland Zoo made the decision to never hold bulls again and have only held cows ever since. Rajah was stuffed and has been enjoyed by visitors to Auckland’s War Memorial Museum for the last 85 years.

He escaped once in June 2018. The second time I think you are referring to Archie the zoo's male White Rhino who escaped his exhibit about a decade ago. I see him at least twice a year and has the potential to grow into one of the best-looking African bulls in the US. Right now he seems to be in another growth phase. What is Maclean's height and weight? Is he related to Willy in Cleveland who is 11'? His tusks look like a female's... very skinny.

Well Maclean weighs 5 1/2 tons and around 11.5 feet tall

Actually he has sired two calves via AI. He has daughter Zahara of Indianapolis and son Jabali of DAK. Hopefully he sires more in the future!

Here is part 3

1.0 Bindu 1969-00-00
He is one of the largest bulls Europe, Bindu weighs over five tons and is 3.15 meters high. He has quite the backstory in his time in Port Lympne Bindu broke the neck of his keeper with a single blow of his trunk. He wanted to strangle another nurse with his trunk . His keeper was very lucky and was just able to break free. But at Cologne he was able to settle down and becoming 6 with 5 calves surviving. He was also an excellent sparring partner for Sang Raja when he was younger. Source: the boss

1.0 Luka (Mita x Tisa) 1973-04-13 Luka's weight is given in Benidorm as five tons. Its height is estimated at 315 cm. At least from Port Lympne it is stated that he showed stereotypical behavior there and was often kept away from visitors in his own enclosure. Overall, Luka's life shows a large part of the history of keeping Asian elephants in Europe: Born early in a zoo in Europe, Luka was often out and about, had character problems and had several failures in breeding. 1.0 Bon 1976-00-00
He is a beautiful bull with a good amount of depigmentation, but he in my opinion to most greatest asset are his tusks which look like a cross between Siam and Billy's tusks. Source: https://www.asianelephant.net/yokohamaka/yokohamaka.htm

1.0 Spike (Dahlip x Seetna) 1981-07-02 He is a massive bull standing 11 feet tall at the shoulder and weighing 6.5 tons he looks very much like his father Dahlip with his sloping back similar to that of a mammoth. Source: The long and storied life of Spike, the Crandon Park Zoo elephant

1.0 Billy 1985-00-00 Their is no doubt in my mind that he is one the most handsome bulls in North America. I saw him in February of 2017. I was 10 back then. And Id seen photos of him but they do him no justice to the majesty when I saw him. I also love him because he was my first elephant in 9 whole years. And at 13,000+ pounds he is one of the largest bulls in North America. Source: Billy the Asian elephant - ZooChat by @Ding Lingwei

1.0 Tembo 1985-00-00 He is a good looking and unlike most other bulls he is actually quite a clam and relaxed bull. Every calf he produces are very good looking especially Tutume, and Kando. Hopefully he will have more breeding success in Vienna. Source: Unser neuer Elefantenbulle: Tembo! – Tiergarten Schönbrunn

1.0 Jack 1993-00-00 You mike confuse him for Tusker but unlike Tusker Jack has only sired three calves two of which are still alive. Source: New male elephant arrives at Basel Zoo
