Favorite Bull Elephants in captivity

Very much rhymes with the previous entry, Billy at the LA Zoo is a spectacular animal. I’ve yet to see an animal who rivals his size and overall presence. I’ve seen him at the zoo all my life and it made me happy seeing him get a bigger habitat with the opening of Elephants of Asia. The photos are some of my favorites I’ve taken when he went diving for food in his pool!

Spike the Asian elephant at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo is quite a majestic sight, and as has been pointed out on this site, has a distinctly mammoth-like slope to his back.
However, probably the most beautiful bull elephant (and elephant, period) I have ever seen is Sibu at Artis Royal Zoo. A thanks to all commenters who informed me of this lad’s name.

This is Sibu, born in 2004 at the Rotterdam zoo to Irma and Alexander.[
The Artis bull because for some reason I couldn’t include an image in the above post.[
Luk Chai (2009)
Luk Chai was the first elephant born in Australasia.
Luk Chai was born at Taronga Zoo in 2009 and has lived at Taronga Western Plains Zoo and Melbourne Zoo, where he sired 1.2 calves born 2022-2023. Luk Chai now lives at Werribee Open Range Zoo.
Luk Chai had brittle tusks, which were removed after they cracked. He still has the makings of an impressive bull nonetheless and is a tall bull.

My dearest Jamba (RIP), at the Belo Horizonte zoo. The largest living elephant in Brazil (and most probably in South America), with an estimated 7 tons (he was also quite tall, although I don't know this exact measurement). It was always wonderful to see this massive titan with a silly face (due to his lack of tusks), even if he wasn't outside the elephant house. Such a shame that he died so young, and that he didn't get to sire any living offspring... But I'll always be fond of the inumerous memories I have of him!
