Favorite hyena species?

I've seen spotted, striped, and aardwolf in zoos, spotted and brown in the wild, and have worked with aardwolf.

It's a toss up, but for aesthetics, behavior, and the interesting cultural history in myth and legend, I'm going to go with striped as my favorite, though all four are incredible.

I love love all of them, but I'll have to go with the Aardwolf, because it's SUPER rare here in the US, and also it's the only one I've seen.

Striped and brown are probably gone from U.S.
Unfortunately, recently even spotted hyenas are not all that common either. :(

Off the top of my head I know SDZSP and Fort Worth have them but there may be some others.
I don’t believe Fort Worth has them at the moment. They are busy constructing a new home for their Striped Hyenas, and while that is happening, They have likely temporarily moved the Hyenas elsewhere.

My favourite is the brown hyena, and has been since I saw a segment on a David Attenborough documentary a few years ago that followed a brown hyena living in the ruins of an abandoned town in the desert. Sadly I've never seen any type of hyena in zoos, but some time in the next couple of years I intend to get down to either Colchester Zoo or Yorkshire Wildlife Park, which have spotted hyenas. As far as I'm aware though, there are no brown hyenas in any UK collection.

A mere handful of years ago, the UK held the full set of hyena species in public collections :(
