a great cover version that I just found of a truly execrable song :
(if you can't see the link go to youtube and put in Neil Young Whip My Hair)
YouTube - Whip My Hair ft Neil Young & Bruce Springsteen

That is classic! I have recently deciding to restrain myself from listening to Whip My Hair. It usually leaves me with a banging head ache and a great pain in my neck.... :(

EDIT: Also looking back on this thread, my favourite music has changed greatly over a quite a short period of time! Ahh well.

Right now I have just been getting into Slayer and Motorhead and some death/black metal. I also dont mind Survivor (TV show) intro songs as well! :D

Just a question but do you like Viking or death metal and if so what bands?

On a side note but still related to music and probably only related to Australians (do New Zealanders get Triple J?) the Triple J Hottest 100 voting is about to close and I was wondering if anyone else has voted and what song they think will be the best for 2010. I voted for Jonsi, Gypsy and the Cat, Janelle Monae, The Jezabels, Jonathan Boulet, Grinderman and a few others.

oooo Adele's new album, 21, is stunning! breathtaking! basically worthy of splashing the hyperbole. just take a look:

YouTube - Adele - Someone Like You (on 'Later Live with Jools Holland') - Nov 2010

Also a new scissor sisters featuring IAM MCKELLEN! Invisible light music video: (the somng hasnt been released yet) (WARNING: it features exploding breasts and rabbit decapitation, its pretty weird...you have been warned!)

YouTube - Scissor Sisters - Invisible Light (Clean Version)

and really into the gossip right now (aka the gossip)

Why did this thread go away? Very interesting to know what our fellow zoochatters like as far as music goes :D
I'm a diehard rock purist... my absolute favorite bands are Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, and Stone Temple Pilots, but I also like Soundgarden, Tool, Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Pantera, Down, Local H, Pink Floyd, Neil Young, Springsteen, Dylan...

I also like this Canadian folk rock singer by the name of Indio, a lot of spirituality through nature and conservation themes and tones in his music. If you are into that stuff I'd definitely say try to get your hands on a copy of the album Big Harvest, or at least Youtube him.

I'm quite into r n b, pop, and hip-hop at the moment (but not heavy rap, can't stand people like lil Wayne)

YouTube - Maroon 5 Feat. Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger
^seems to be song of the moment, I like it, good party song, but can sort of get on your nerves+may not be to everyones taste, should take a look tho

YouTube - Busted - Air Hostess ( Live @ Jonathan Ross )
^really into busted currently, I absoloutly love them (even though they are a bit old:D) but this is my favorite song by them, take a look;)

More mainstream stuff I like :
Foo Fighters, Muse, Elbow

But my main preference lies elsewhere:
Isis, Tool, Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emporer, Maybeshewill, iliketrains, Oceansize. The list could get very long.

I love instrumental post-rock/post metal stuff mainly. But also like indie-rock, classic rock, some metal, classical, ambient electronic, shoegaze, alt rock... Can't stand chart dance/pop music personally.

Seen hundreds of bands live, although not so much these days.... Muse at least 6 times, lost count of the number of times I've seen Foo Fighters. Loads of 90s indie rock bands (that's where my tastes lied back then). I was a big fan of festivals... V, Leeds, Reading, Glastonbury.

I'm an indie/rock fan at heart but I do like a lot of other types as well. Favourite bands are Muse, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Arctic Monkeys, The Beatles, John Lennon, Jamie T, Oasis, Blink 182, The Prodigy, The Courteeners, Pulp, Kasabian, Shed Seven etc etc
At the moment I'm particularly liking Ed Sheeran and I've just got Kasabians new album but am yet to listen to it. :D

One of my favourite bands at the moment is The Jezabels and they released a new album about 4 or 5 days ago. It's called Prisoner and it is fantastic. I'm listening to it as I type this. They're Australian and I don't know if they're known at all in other countries but if you get the chance to see them live, take it, because they are unforgettable.

Here's maybe their most popular song so far:

And here's my personal favourite:

Personally, I have always admired the work of Sir Andrew Llloyd Webber, ever since he wrote Joseph as a musical for children to perform at school, he wrote the music and Tim Rice wrote the lyrics for this show, later Lloyd Webber joined up with Don Black, who wrote the lyrics for Born Free, for the Musical, Tell me on a Sunday,"Take me to a zoo that's got chimpanzees, tell me on a Sunday please". Very good but could the chimpanzees have a new house built?, and if so when?, "Tell me on a Sunday please":)

Here are just a few of my favorite artists:
Michael Jackson*
Maroon 5*
Coldplay
Outkast
Bruno Mars*
Katy Perry
Kanye West
Trey Songz
David Guetta
Usher
Leona Lewis*
Deep Purple
Rolling Stones
John Mayer*
Guns n' Roses (especially Paradise City)

(Singles)
My Body by Andre the Giant
Animal by Neon Trees
Rocketship by Shiny Toy Guns

and so many others!

I thought this would be the most appropriate place to post this. Is anyone getting into Eurovision? I'm a huge fan. It's such a guilty pleasure. We get it a bit behind in Australia. It's only the first semifinal here so try not to give anything away if you're ahead of us :) . Anyway I've seen a few of this years entrants on Youtube and I think Iceland is my favourite. I really love Jonsi and I'm a sucker for Eurovision ballads.
Who does everyone else think will win this year? Who else actually cares?

I've recorded Eurovision and they do have some really good music (I've had Taken by a Stranger stuck in my head since last year's competition)

But on my favourite music. Umm. Korean Music, anyone? It's so varied, but most of it is very good. Umm.. I have 150 songs and what one I'd show you depends on your personal taste, but this is kinda a good generic one...
But there's a lot more.

I think it's just so innocent and cute, and, pretty much like 80's music with today's technology.

Maybe
or
or

There's just so many styles. Hard to summate.

Wow that is really horrible. I really like Jónsi and Sigur Rós and couldn't believe it was actually him because it is so middle of the road and unlike anything he has done before. As far as Eurovision goes I think it is much less of a big deal in the UK than years ago, I haven't seen it for years.

The UK has had some terrible entrants over the years (or at least in the years that I've been watching). Blue, Daz Sampson (that was especially bad), and who could forget that innuendo filled airline song? I can see why people there might not feel so strongly about it. I guess in Australia no one takes it seriously but it still has a lot of entertainment value. You should here our commentators rip in to it. They're the most sarcastic people ever.

And the song is definitely not what you'd expect from Jonsi but I still really like it. I also like Sweden's entry. Now that's a catchy song.
