Favorite rhino species

I have noticed they are very sensitive animals myself, I have only watched White, Black and Indian and all three in my experience, you do sum up with the words sensitive, nervous and intelligent. I have been lucky (as a non keeper) to touch and have some interaction with rhinos, Whites mainly and once an Indian and they where very relaxed and enjoyed a tickle on their ears and one white female even raised her back leg a little to let me scratch her softer thinner skin at the top of her leg/ thigh area. I have seen Whites with new born and they are great mothers showing great care, protection and awareness. They also show great patience as mothers too as the little ones can be totally manic at times!.
It is interesting to hear how docile the Sumatran ones are in comparison to the three other species, and that a wild caught was eating from you after 24 hours is amazing.

I love them all! Each have something unique about them and that's why they exist in the first place! Although at this point 'White Rhino' should be split into Southern and Northern White Rhinos as many do believe they are different species.

If we want to be fair though it really should be Hook Lipped, Northern Square Lipped (almost extinct) and Southern Square Lipped.

Not sure how using the other names makes it more fair. Also, you forgot Greater (Asian) One-Horned and either Sunda or Lesser (Asian) One-Horned. I don't think there's an alternate name for the Sumatran Rhinoceros, though.

Just that Square and Hook lipped are really better names than Black/White considering both are 50 shades of gray (ok bad joke).

Yeah but Black/White/Indian/Javan are easier and shorter and the public easily recognizes the animal when they're called by those names (well the African species as I don't think a lot of people know rhinos are from Asia as well).

I don't believe the general public knows that there is more than one species of rhinoceros altogether.:rolleyes:
 
Sumatran rhinos (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis) are my favorite, considering that i have a very strong interest in prehistoric mammals, I like Sumatran rhinos, they are the closest living relative of Wooly rhinos (Coelodonta antiquitatis), dont get me wrong, I love ALL rhinoceros species, Sumatrans just happen to be my favorite !!!
 
I love them all, but my favourite is the Indian Rhino. Ive spent time watching them in Nepal's Chitwan and Bardia National Parks. Ive also patted them a few times.

My second favourite is the White Rhino. Ive also patted them too and seen them a lot in zoos. I think they are prob my second favourite because Im more familiar with them and seen them a lot more.

I think when you spend more time around a certain animal you cant help but start loving it more!

As I said, I love all rhinos, but these 2 are the two that Im most interested in! Id love to see and learn more about the Sumatran Rhino though!
