Natural History Museum Favourite Exhibit?

generally speaking, I prefer old-fashioned zoology museums and normally find such changes rather disappointing as they so often result in fewer specimens on show. Fortunately that wasn’t the case here and I like the new displays very much.

As indeed do I. 'Modernisation' of museum displays so often means the disappearance of the former extensive collections into the storage vaults and replacing them with 'interpretive' displays encompassing far fewer species.:(

I actually prefer Tring to London as I think there is far more there to see in terms of appreciating current biodiversity through their taxidermy collection.

In London for me it is their mammal and to a lesser extent bird halls which interest me most and particularly the specimens of extinct species.

The spirit collection tour is excellent too and well worth booking and the seasonal temporary exhibitions I've been to there are also great.

Beyond the exhibits themselves I just love the architecture of the building with it's cathedral like interior which gives it a secular temple to natural history and science feel.

Another excellent little natural history museum in London that gets far less attention is the Grant museum of Zoology over by UCL which has a much more intimate feel (the nearby Petrie museum of Egyptology is superb too).
