Favourite lemur species

Thank you, CheeseChameleon2007.

I looked up Wright's sportive lemur on the internet and couldn't find a link to Patricia Wright. She has done a lot for lemur conservation. Some of her work led to the formation of the Ranomofana Reserve. I mentioned the reserve at a work session where we were asked where we'd like to go if we could go anywhere for the day. Another person said Ethiopia, where his family lives. Other people said, "My back garden", "a swimming pool", "Hackney" and "Dalston".

Very nice. I am looking forward to this wonderful zoo chat community. :)

Yes, Wright's sportive lemur is named after Patricia C. Wright.

The book The Eponym Dictionary of Mammals (Beolins, Watkins & Grayson) is a useful reference work for answering such questions
Thanks for the info! I dont have that book unfortunately. I couldn't find it anywhere online so thanks for the help. You rock!

Who use the name "Pekan"? It's not even common name!

It actually is being used increasingly often as the common name for the North American Fisher - and interestingly this is a return to the original Anglophone common name rather than a new innovation, as the species was described under this name before "Fisher" gained popularity.

Interesting choice, fascinating species being one of the few monogamous primates.

You seem to have some familiarity with this species, have you worked with these in captivity ? If so what are their temperaments like ?

I have worked with a couple of individuals in captivity, only briefly though. They were quite fantastic to observe and I particularly enjoyed the times where they got filled with energy and would bounce from the ground to the trees to the ropes etc.
I think its that, that makes them my favourite lemur!
