Apologies if this has been done already, but thought we could add on to Novels and TV shows (which I'll be doing directly after this thread).

You'll probably be able to tell what kind of genre I'm into from this list:

1. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - Just amazing, is all I can say, and a work of genius from Peter Jackson after using the words written by the even more fantastic J.R.R Tolkien. However, as it's prelude 'The Hobbit' is my favourite book and is now being made into films by Jackson and Del Toro, who has directed two others of my favourite films, I spect' that'll top my chart by 2011!
2. Jurassic Park - I saw this when I was only three, and set my interest for dinosaurs. The effects never get old, and the raptors in the kitchen is still a terrifying scene.
3. Pan's Labyrinth - This is a must-see from the genius of Guillermo del Toro. A really thought-provoking film, and to lazy people who wouldn't watch it because it's in Spanish, I'd like to introduce them to the Pale Man.
4. King Kong (2005) - Another work of genuis from Sir Peter Jackson, reworking this 1930's masterpiece into a truly epic film. And like with Return of the King, I'm not ashamed to say that I cried at the end.
5. Hellboy II: The Golden Army - Also from the great Guillermo del Toro, I haven't really seen the first one, but the sequel is generally regarded as being better. If you want an illustration of del Toro's mind, then just watch this movie.

The fantasy/sci-fi genre aside, some of my favourite comedies include the Monty Python films, Anchorman and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and animal wise I love Tarka the Otter and The Fox and the Child.

Top 3 -
Zoolander
Austin Powers
The Blues Brothers

Others -
Silence of the Lambs
No Country for Old Men
Pirates of the Caribbean
The Shining

:)

Pan's Labyrinth is one of my favorites too, Zambar. :)

I also love V for Vendetta and The Darjeeling Limited. Those are my top three. And others include Where the Wild Things Are, Juno and Inglourious Basterds. :)

Hot Fuzz Is the Best Film EVER!
Jurasssic park, Star wars, Goal, Alien, Predator, AVP and The Simpsons movies are also some of my faves!

If you liked Hot Fuzz then definatley try and see How to Lose Friends and Alienate People. It has Simon Pegg in it too and is more hilarious then Hot Fuzz and if only to sweeten the deal it has Megan Fox in it too. :)

Probably my favourite film is "Aguirre the wrath of god" directed by Werner Herzog , it is about a conquistador who looses his mind on a millitary expedition in the Amazon rainforest to find "El dorado". It is a very dark film ,hypnotising its about humanity , insanity ,colonialism ,violence ,racism, conquest and mans insignificance in comparison with the forces of nature. The actor Klaus Kinski played the part so well ,(The actor was actually schizophrenic in reality so that might be why he was so convincing) it was very disturbing to watch his performance and descent into madness.
Here are some of my other favourite films , i reccomend highly.

Apocalypse now
The birdman of alcatraz
body song
clock work orange
Pans labyrinth
The kid , the gold rush , modern times , charlie chaplin films
The good , the bad , the ugly (although it doesnt exactly play my people in a good light hahaha)
A fistfull of dollars

As for television , i have very little time for it except for the news i watch of the bbc en Español and Al jazeera (cant stand the American news channels , as they tend to distort the truth) , and documentaries which i see whenever i can.

Not sure you should recommend those films to someone who is not old enough to watch them. :p

i have seen that movie before but is till prefer hot fuzz. how to lose friends and alienate people is a bit to crude for my liking. if you have seen the film before you would know that there are some bits in there that are a little obscene. the unfortunate thing is when i was watching that film i was watching it with my grandmother.

i think that one of the funniest films in the world is death at a funeral. watch it! i don't want to give away to much but the opening scene is some guys father has just died and the corpse is being delivered to the funeral service when the guy opens it to see his father he is shocked to find the wrong guy.:D

Pretty similar choices to Zambar for me, just have to add in all 3 Transformer movies (including the 86 Cartoon movie), Jaws & Black Hawk Down

I know and love every word of Dr Doolittle, l try to only watch it when alone as l can't sing but love trying to LOL

there is a dr.dolittle movie called "tail to the chief". it features the fictional american presidents conservation site for exotic animals (along the lines of that).

does anyone know if the movie was filmed at an actual zoo or wild animal park or were the exhibits built for the film. i doubt that the exhibits were built for the movie, even though they were very simple.

I do very much love The Muppets, with Muppets Treasure Island being my all time favourite film. :p But I would have to say I do like most of Simon Pegg's films, like Hot Fuzz, Run Fat Boy Run, How To Lose Friends And Alienate People... etc. I haven't seen Shaun Of The Dead, and really should. Hmmm. The Boat That Rocked is another good one. But I have got my Grandad's love of animated films, definately! Things such as Dreamworks and Pixar, lol. :)

Edit:
How could I forget to mention The Shawshank Redemption?

I remember we started watching Shawshank in English just before the hols because someone brought it in, but our teacher couldn't cope with the language and switched it off.:rolleyes:

In English lesson was where I was introduced to it, too. You can pick it up at Asda or HMV for like £3, and I would say it is well worth it.

SO! I have a couple of new favoutie movies that I'd like to share with everyone. I should really keep a list or something somewhere because there a definitely more but I can't think of them at the moment.

Firstly, We Need to Talk About Kevin. I thought it was going to be about a high school massacre. I wsn't disappointed when it wasn't though because the story is really unique. It's about the mother of the teenager who does the shooting at his high school. The mother is played by Tilda Swinton and as per usual she is phenomenal.

Another great movie that I've seen recently is City of God (or Cidade de Deus because it's in Portuguese). It is similiar to Slumdog Millionaire but set in the slums of Rio de Janeiro and seen through the eyes of a budding young photographer who grew up alongside the slum's most notorious characters.

I on purposely didn't go to see this next one at the cinema because I thought it was a sequel and if there is one movie that the world doesn't need, it's another Rambo film. But Son of Rambow on the other hand is exactly what the world needs. I had no idea that it would be as hilarious as it is and I can't recommend it enough for everybody to see. My grandparents liked it. My little brother liked it. Everybody that I've shown liked it.

anything by nick frost and simon pegg is pure comedy. I'd also reccomend the inbetweeners movie, however, it is very crude indeed.

I enjoyed it, but it's not everyones cup of tea. I wouldn't say very crude, just crude, but then again early John Waters is my yardstick.:)
