Field Guide to the Birds of Colombia

As a belated birthday present, my parents just gave me a copy of the "Field Guide to the Birds of Colombia" - a compact book listing over 1800 species of birds found in Colombia with great illustrations.

This is going to be handy to take on our next trip - especially compared to my other rather large book "A guide to the Birds of Colombia", which is nearly 4 times the size (and weight!) of this new book.

At the risk of sounding like I'm bragging, I received to day the following little gem:

Actually, 'little' gem is a bit of an exaggeration as it's as big - if not bigger - than the Colombian guide by Hilty & Brown.

Also got this in the same shipment

and an introduction to Bioinformatics ("Bioinformatics for Dummies").

Ummm, planning a trip? Yes.....whether it actually eventuates is another matter...

Are we playing a game of one-upmanship now Mr Hix? :p

No, no, just sharing with another birdo a book I got this morning. I wasn't as lucky as you - the mailman gave me mine (and I had to pay for them myself).

I must confess that I am no birder - that title belongs to my father. I did grow up trailing my father through bushland while he chased after some bird he had heard - and I did own my own pair of binoculars at a rather young age (as did my sister), but I do not keep bird lists like my father does, nor do I bring the car to a screeching halt on the side of the road just because I've spotted what I thought was a rare bird.

However, I do enjoy the challenge of bird photography, and having a field guide available to help identify them afterwards is useful.
