Zoo Krefeld Fire at Krefeld Zoo

Stating there were higher number of Great Ape deaths at Philadelphia in comparison to Krefeld is not a competition any zoo would want to win. However, it may help to realise that such an incident has happened before at other zoos, and that all these occurrences have a couple of things in common. There was nowhere with fire-proofing that the animals could at least seek some refuge, and there was not sufficient monitoring both human and remote during the night hours.

That I take as given for any rational person who wasn't born yesterday.

Given the general setting of the building and the animals held within, that would have been hardly possible for most of the animals.

On a related note: as a response to allegations by P€TA regarding the welfare of the two chimpanzees that survived the fire, a representative of the Jane Goodall Instituts Global has visited and observed the two chimps, seeing no need to transport them to a Welsh chimp "sanctuary" as suggested by the animal right activists.
