Went on my first visit to Banham. Had a great day and really enjoyed. Just put together a short review.*
Plus Points:
Loved all the cats. I managed to see all their cat species. Saw my first Pallas cats (loved their grumpy looks) - one of them was interested in the sun conures in the enclosure across the way. I also loved the Geoffroys cats - very active and very sweet looking. The tigers were very also incredibly active - the male was half heartedly hunting blackbirds but not with a huge effort. I liked the tiger enclosure - liked the different areas and levels. The snow leopard enclosure reminded me of twycross's.*
I loved the selection of lemurs - very varied; and the marmosets and tamarins. I really wanted to see the sclaters lemur, but it was the only one that didnt show today. Also a nice variety of monkeys and a family of siamang gibbons.*
A highlight of the day was seeing the black tailed prairie dogs in the walk through. I saw one of them busying away, then suddenly realised there were loads of them.*
I also loved the maned wolves, who were also very active at about 3:30. One of them was busy moving and burying food around the edge their enclosure.*
Areas for Improvement:
The only area that really looked like it needed upgrading was the fur seal pool. I thought it didn't seem deep enough after seeing some great exhibits like Bristol. Though having said that the seals seemed happy enough - swimming and snoozing.*
Overall, had a great day. Lovely feel to the place. With a good variety of well looked after animals and friendly staff. *Generally the enclosures were well maintained and had good enrichment. Enjoyed seeing the latest birth - only 4 days old, but I'm not sure if it's been announced so I won't say anything. ;-)*
Good value for money as well. I'd definitely go back again.*
