Thought you might be interested to know we now have 7 Greater flamingo chicks at the zoo. (and one egg still to hatch..hopefully). This is the first time in 6 years we have even had eggs from the group, so I'm particularly proud! You may know 8 of our flamingos were taken by a fox some years back and we then hand reared 10 from eggs given to us from Slimbridge in 2005 to boost our group back to 30 birds. Several of these hand reared birds are amonst those breeding now and all fertile eggs have hatched so far and all chicks are being parent reared very successfully so far. They range from about a week to a month in age now. We also moved all our Little egrets into this enclosure from the Wallace aviary and they have nested and reared probably about 15 chicks in an elder tree in the middle of the enclosure.
