Thank you . When I emailed both zoos those years ago I got not no straight answer
Really? I find that kind of a bit pathetic TBH (around and prior to transfers to/fro ... I accept that it is embargo, but beyond that ... not really especially with high profile species).

As the individual in question had already moved on I wish their PR/communication departments would be more forthcoming and transparant and (goodness forbid, if not ..) be in the know.

“This is the last summer of the sea lion show as we know it.

“We have got a brand new sea lion exhibit that we’re developing for cape fur seals – a brand new type of sea lion that you can’t see anywhere else in the UK, exclusive to Flamingo Land.

“They’re already here, we’re already looking after them, and we are building a world class habitat for those cape fur seals.”

Cape fur seals are coming to Flamingo Land Resort.

Cape fur seals are found on the coastline of Southern Africa.

It’s the only place in the world they can be found in the wild.

Ross said:

“The new Lost River ride will circle around their new habitat. You’ll be able to see them underwater in their three separate pools.

“We’ll still be doing sea lion presentations – but not shows as people may have seen. It’s going to be an amazing exhibit.”
Foud the report
This sounds good, I always like seeing a species that's only held at one zoo in the country. Will the California sea lions be leaving the zoo once the new fur seal enclosure is done, or are they staying?

Well it will certainly improve the lives of the African lions, now that they won't be getting a free shower in there indoor house, now that the log flume is being moved.

Piece of June 2023/March 2024 News Not Mentioned:

On June 30th, it was announced that the zoo transferred (0.0.2+?) Indian peafowl to Birdworld in Surrey.

Birdworld Surrey

On March 19th, the zoo announced they acquired (0.0.32) greater flamingos from an unspecified facility in Greater Manchester which are now on exhibit.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On April 19th, the zoo announced that they started constructing a new exhibit for their white-crowned mangabeys. The zoo also announced that they would be swapping a (1.0) white-crowned mangabey Paddy for another mangabey in an unspecified facility in Germany in the near future.

very glad the mangabey are getting an upgrade I had a look at the zoo tv video and they also teased that other species may be joining the mangabey in that exhibit in the future

Just checked the zoos website and there’s a banner saying that there are some new arrivals at the sealion facility

presumably the cape fur seals
The wording of that banner makes it seem like I may have a chance of seeing a Cape fur seal when I visit Flamingo Land in a couple of weeks, that's very exciting! Has it been said whether or not the California sea lions are staying at the zoo once the new Cape fur seal enclosure opens?

Very small update but as I saw in a lost river ride construction update video, the ostrich are now in the giraffe enclosure next door to the cheetah, I don’t know if they are in both giraffe enclosures or just that one now

I had a great visit to Flamingo Land today, my first visit since 2007. Sadly I didn't get to see the new Cape fur seals, so that'll be a big priority next time I visit, but I did see pretty much every other big ticket animal they have. I'd say my favourite things there are the big cats, hippopotamus, kangaroos and wallabies, and some of the domestics in Muddy Duck Farm. A cute moment was when I went into the lemur walkthrough, one of the ring-tails came up to me and started licking my shoe, and I had to just stand there for a minute or so until it was done. The keeper on hand said the lemurs do this with basically anything textured, including the wooden posts dotted around.

I just been watching a video on YouTube yesterday and they had a zebra foal born and they said in the future they're planning to move the Grant's Zebras on and get a new species of zebra like the Grevy's Zebra
I saw the foal when I visited earlier this week, it's such a little cutie, and I put up a couple of photos in the gallery. I didn't see either of the parents at any point though, the foal was just on its own in the yard.
