Flamingos in North America

Timbavati Wildlife Park keeps Lesser Flamingo.

It puzzles me where all these non-AZA places are getting Lessers - I was surprised to see that species listed in the review. It is the latest in a string of unaccredited places added for Lesser recently, yet afaik Lesser is the species we struggle to breed the most here, nor am I aware of any AZA holder going out of them.

Lesser flamingos are legally exported from some African countries, notably Tanzania. Their animal traders have government-sanctioned quota for catching and selling wild birds.

That would make sense then, most likely it's Wildlife World importing and distributing. I figured someone was probably importing but didn't know how likely it was; apparently quite.

Are all of these birds wing-clipped and/or pinioned or is there any place that has fully-flighted flamingos?

There are at least a few zoos with flamingos in enclosed aviaries. Being in an aviary and being able to fly, however, are two completely different things, as at least one of the two zoos I've been to with flamingos in an enclosed aviary is in an aviary too short for the flamingos to meaningfully fly. Roger Williams Park Zoo and Stone Zoo though both definitely have flamingos in enclosed aviaries, and the latter one the flamingos *might* be able to fly, however I don't know for certain nor are flamingos in zoos likely to fly unless they are in an extremely large aviary.

Supposedly there are a few places that hold them fully flighted outdoors - I forget which though other than Sacramento.
