Florida gives up on eradicating pythons

From the reporting in this article it seems that wildlife authorities have given up on trying to eradicate invasive pythons from the Everglades and are now focusing on managing them somehow. It's a depressing state of affairs.

In other news a Nile crocodile was found running wild in a canal near Miami and people are freaking out about the possibility of this species getting established.

Another Florida agency is renewing the effort to stem the spread of invasive pythons, whose range is expanding.

I think some invasive species should be kept around either because the invasive population is healthier than the native population (hedgehogs and southern bell frogs in New Zealand and banteng in Australia come to mind), or if the invasive species has a lot of potential to speciate or develop interesting traits (cats and feral livestock on small subantarctic islands). An unpopular opinion, I know, but just mine.
