Football (Soccer) Teams

I was wondering if any of you guys support a football team?

I support Liverpool FC but I have an attachment to Stoke City FC as well.

What're your thoughts on your team and how do you expect your leagues to finish?

Personally, I feel Manchester United will scrape the premiership, followed by Arsenal, then Chelsea, then Liverpool. Manchester City and Everton will get European spots. Derby, Fulham and Middlesbrough will be relegated.

I used to support Stoke City. I last went in 1986 and then gave it up because I got bored. I still look out for their results though. I had the 1972 league cup final dvd for Christmas.

I think Stoke have a good chance of promotion this year, they need to be more adventurous once they score, and stop all these annoying 1-1 draws. If only the could find a decent striker to go with Fuller. My second team is Aston Villa because my cousin supports them.

I've been to every Stoke home game this season and it's a definate improvement on recent seasons. As for Fuller's partner, I believe that if Cresswell is given a run up front then he will come good. Now we have Griffin, Pugh can go left-midfield and Cressy can partner Fuller.

Greetings

Was it 1992 when Chester City denied Stoke City promotion ?

I remember being there to cheer Gary Bennett's last minute winner !

Cheers, Paul M, Chester.

Would that have been 25th April 1992 at the Victoria Ground, Stoke 0 Chester 1?

Stoke were 2nd and lost 3-1 at Bolton the week after to finish 4th, then lost to Stockport in the play-offs.

Yep - that's the one !

I haven't been to your new stadium yet.

Though driven past it many times going to Blackbrook or Twycross.

Do those open corners cause any wind issues ?

Cheers, Paul M.

Zoospud, those open corners cause a huge draught throughout the ground, it's not the best...

However, now Peter Coates has bought the stadium back, if Stoke get promoted, the corners will be filled in to increase attendance.

Well if Peter Coates is back in charge thats promotion gone then,so i won`t have to worry about my beloveded Aston Villa ever playing them in the Premership then now will I.

Currently Coates is taking Stoke closer to the premiership than the Icelandics ever did, they nearly steered the club into league 1!

Personally, I still see Stoke slipping away right at the death, much like last season... :(

Well am cheering on stoke in there FA Cup replay with Newcastle. Just hope liverpool dont slip up tonight, and they show everyone what they are capable off.

But you can see rafa looks like hes on his way out!

My cousin has a season ticket at Villa, he says they are playing better than last season.

So the mighty Potters have done it again! Thrashed 4-1 by a very poor Premiership team playing with only ten men for 70 minutes.

Still, that nice Mr Pulis says that cup matches are not important.

I watched the entire match at the Britannia stadium (in the bar) and I swear that at least 20 mins of match footage was lost, whilst the camera panned to Kevin Keegan in the crowd who was usually doing nothing or shaking somebody's hand...

Anywho, onwards and upwards to the premiership ;)

That is exactly what they're saying on Radio Stoke. The coverage apparently moved to Keegan every time Stoke had an attack. It's not like he won anything for them the last time. And looking on the bright side, he put 10-15 thousand on the gate and Stoke get half the takings.

Still, it's not as bad as when we lost in the cup at Nueaton, or even worse, Vale Park!

I hope you enjoyed the experience anyway. Now we can look forward to the return of Andrew Griffin. I saw him in the youth team in about 1996.

Griffin did really well on loan last year (scored a screamer versus Coventry) as did Salif Diao who came on as a sub against Newcastle.

Going back to the coverage, everyone in the bar voted unaminously to turn the commentary off as it was constant references to Keegan! To be fair though, the commentator can only comment on what was put on the screen before him...

It kind of completely undermined the cup-tie in the end, which is a shame.

Mamade Sidibe is back at Stoke after a short time away with the Mali national team. He is not very happy about not playing much. Maybe he should remember he is a striker and actually start to score some goals, then perhaps he would get picked. Oh I forgot, he doesn't score for Stoke and still keeps his place.
