Africa Alive! For those of you who are interested..

But Blackpool doesn`t have any Blesbok at least they didin`t when I visited in October, and if they did get them I don`t know where they would put them as they don`t have any empty paddock space!

i can assure you they went to Blackpool, they have only just left in the last few weeks from AA, as for space i know alot of zoos have private holding areas until such space becomes available unless they are planning to mix them with something.

Thanks for that,in that case they must be in the off-show holding area in one of the old hangars the only place I can think they could put them is in with the Giraffes, unless they mix them with the Sitatunga or Red River Hogs either way it will be interesting to see what they do with them.

I'm guessing the Bongo haven't arrived yet as the grass will surely need to 'revitalise' from the heavy grazing it will soon experience?

not there yet, last time i saw it the enclosure has been modified ready for them.

Yeah, AA! started modifying the sleeping quarters while Blesbok were still in the enclsure.

Does ANYBODY know how many Bongo will eventually go into the enclosure and where they are coming from? Surely the enclosure is only big enough for 3 maybe 4 Bongo? Aaaand will the Bongo be coming from ZSL Whipsnade?

probably from ZSL Whipsnade but have to wait and see. I should also say three bongo would be the maximum occupancy for that enclosure.

Do any zoos in the East have bongo's?
The nearest I know is Whipsnade but they only have a few.

Whipsnade have about nine.

Woburn just down the road have a similar number.

It should be easy enough for AA to aquire a pair or trio, even if the animals come from more than one source, which is better when starting a new group.

I will try to visit Africa Alive over the next few days (weather permitting of course) and I will try to answer these questions for you pattrunk and you ZooLeopard :)
