Fort Wayne Children's Zoo Fort Wayne Children's Zoo

Samson was born at Brookfield and is 2. he was at fw last year alone, so I would assume no. Unless you're referring to wyatt, i have no idea about him.

Sorry, I misinterpreted. I have old records of a male born in the 2000's that resided at Fort Wayne (born at a private facility and came thru Franklin Park ... at some point). I guess, this old male has died (without) offspring.

BTW: did not even know Brookfield sent out a young cat to FWCZ last year ...
(one of the cubs of the successful Brookfield pairing, the male actually came from an European facility!)

"Wyatt" was born at the Denver Zoo on 4/25/12 and was known as Makar there. He moved to the Santa Barbara Zoo in July 2013 at which time he was renamed "Wyatt" by the Wyatt family. He was in the breeding program there but did not father any cubs with their female. She was imported from Marwell Zoo in England and thus very genetically valuable to the North American population, so the Species Survival Plan decided to send her a new boyfriend (Kasha from Brookfield Zoo) and move "Wyatt".

Thank you for your elaborative reply as I did not know about the Santa Barbara connection. The latter "new" pairing has not yet produced any offspring I believe ...

Allthough, I have it on record the (former) male at Fort Wayne is the one born at the private facility in November 2000 (and not born at Denver Zoo). This is not to say the current male at FWCZ is not your Wyatt. Just it does not explain the fate of the other male previously at Fort Wayne, that is.

You're welcome. I visited Wyatt/Makar periodically during his many years at the Santa Barbara Zoo. I believe he moved to Fort Wayne Children's Zoo in March 2020 per what Santa Barbara announced before his anticipated move. I do not know how recently their new male, Kasha, arrived from Brookfield Zoo as they have not announced his arrival yet, although Brookfield confirmed he was in Santa Barbara during a recent online Amur leopard keeper talk.

The earlier male at Fort Wayne was named Ussuri and was born at a facility called Jungle Cat World Wildlife Park in Orono, Ontario, Canada in November 2000. Unfortunately he passed away on 4/23/19:

Thanks, elana, good info. I wondered if wyatt was referring to Santa Barbara zoo, but couldn't find any moving details and the Denver zoo statement kinda threw me off, makes sense now. Wish they wouldn't change animals names though, makes it harder to track them.

Lynn, the clouded leopard from Pittsburgh zoo is now in quarantine at fort Wayne, if raury and Lynn get along they will be paired for breeding. They also changed his name to sanji, not sure on spelling, it was told to me in a keeper chat and has not yet been announced on their page. They hope to have him out by the end of the season.

I really wish that so many zoos wouldn't change animal names. It makes keeping track of individual animals annoyingly difficult. I realize that the studbooks can help, but it just seems pointless. I would also imagine that it would be confusing for the animals themselves (I have no idea which species recognize their own names, but I imagine many do).

I agree, I actually said the same on this thread when discussing wyatt, the amur leopard
