Fort Worth Zoo Fort Worth Zoo 2013-2015

Fort Worth has had another baby. This time a boy. Problem is, they won't say what species.

I am trying to get an accurate count of how many bonobos are in captivity in the United States. Can anyone tell me how many are at the Fort Worth Zoo? Name and ages would be helpful also.

VERY IMPORTANT (because it is for my animal collection lists:)):

Can anyone confirm, that Fort Worth Zoo has had the following species between 1978 until today (and when exactly):

Francois' Langur/Tonkin Langur
Lion-tailed Macaque
Indian/Asian Lion
Asian small-clawed Otter
Eastern/Styans Red Panda
Crested porcupine (Hystrix cristata)
Malayan Tapir
Springbock
Thomson's Gazelle
Pronghorn Antilope
Blackbuck
Eastern? White-bearded Wildebeest
Any duiker species (which one)
Indian Axis deer (Axis axis axis)
Indian Gaur (Bos gaurus gaurus)
Takin (Budorcas taxicolor ssp.?)

Red-crested Turaco (Tauraco erythrolophus)
Yellow-billed Duck (Anas undulata)
Cape teal (Anas capensis)
Fairy Bluebird
King Penguin
Gentoo Penguin
Any cormorant species (which one)

Black Mamba
Taipan

And can onyone tell me what is happen with the Bisons/American Buffalos?

The bison and pronghorn exhibits (which I saw on my first visit there) were removed to make room for the construction of the new reptile complex MOLA.

As for the specific waterfowl species you mentioned I am not sure, however they've had all sorts of ducks and geese over the years. Some rarer ones that I believe are no longer there are the magpie goose, radjah shelduck, spur-winged goose and Hartlaub's duck. I would say some of the listed species could be fairly recent - there have been several waterfowl exhibits around the zoo.

from their facebook:

“Our babies are growing, and so are we!

We have begun implementing the first steps in the next phase of the Zoo’s future. We are placing more than 400 trees, bushes and shrubs along with a compatible fence on our boundary line.

The new area being utilized will allow more space for numerous animals, including two rhino species and the Zoo’s elephant herd, including the baby elephants, which have garnered worldwide attention. Specific plans for the area will be announced later in the year.

The landscape and fence work will be followed by the installation of utilities, including water, sewer and electric. The green space outside the Zoo boundary will continue to provide youth soccer practice areas.

The Zoo boundary is not changing, only the Zoo’s fence line. This is the existing Zoo boundary line that was established by the City of Fort Worth nearly 25 years ago and all of the area within the boundary lies inside the Fort Worth Zoo’s long-established property line.

It's an exciting time at the Fort Worth Zoo, and we appreciate all the community has done to help make us one of the top 5 zoos in the nation!"

Does anyone happen to know what the site plans of the new elephant barn entails? I've searched but haven't been able to find much information. I recently visited but keepers were impossible to find.

Interesting they got striped hyenas from Africa when striped hyenas are on phase out. Maybe we will get lucky and enough zoos will follow suit and the decision will be reversed. I like them. They arent what most people think of when they picture a hyena so its neat to see them. Probably a great addition so long as they can find homes for any cubs born.
