Fort Worth Zoo announced a few days ago that they had successfully bred and reared there first greater flamingo chicks ever. This means they have bred all four species of flamingo found in North American zoos. They attributed this to the bird flu measures they took for the species, when they moved the species off-exhibit and indoors.

Angel the Asian Elephant had one of her teeth removed due to a tooth infection.

"Keepers noticed a change in Angel the Asian elephant's eating habits, which led to the discovery of a tooth infection. Two teeth that were causing her pain were ultimately removed. Since the procedure, Angel has gained weight that she initially lost and is back to her normal eating habits. A procedure of this nature hadn't been performed at the Zoo before, and it's just one example of the outstanding care of the Asian elephants at the Fort Worth Zoo. Hats off to the team of more than 50 people, made up of elephant staff, veterinary staff and more, for successfully bringing her back to comfort."

They are South American Coatis. White-Nosed Coatis have darker fur.
You are correct they are South American Coatis, but the giveaway isn't the color of fur. White-nosed Coatis can be light colored too.

The real difference is in the color at the end of their nose. White for White-nosed (obviously) and brown for South American.

On August 17th, the zoo announced that they have acquired (2.0) coatis (species not specified) named Ringo and Camilo and are now part of the ambassador animal program.

The zoo has white-nosed coatis on display for Texas Wilds so it would make sense for them to have South American coatis as educator animals. I wonder what other animals they have for educators.

Are the three female River Hippos at the zoo all exhibited together, or are they separated? I have not been to the Fort Worth Zoo since they opened the new hippo exhibit in 2018.

When I have gone I’ve only seen two of them together, I imagine all three hippos would be exhibited together but maybe one just prefers to stay in the back or in the parts of the enclosure not easily visible? Would be kind of weird to have two out and one in holdings.

I'm guessing that if you saw only two, then they would most likely be Jonsey and Daisy, because they have been together in Fort Worth since 1986. Jonsey and Daisy might rotate on-exhibit with Bubbles, the third female, who arrived in 2018. The reason for separating might be because Daisy and Bubbles are full sisters (born to Uma and Tumbo at San Antonio Zoo) and they might have been fighting. Hippo sisters seem to get along well, but fighting possibly could have happened.

I typically only see two hippos at a time at the FWZ. I guess they cycle them in the enclosure?
