Founder species

What about Whipsnade's Indian rhinos? Have they kept them continuously since Mohan arrived?

I don’t think Whipsnade have been without an Indian rhinoceros since ‘Mohan’ arrived in 1947.

(And there were also the Indian rhinos ‘Hush’ and ‘Hash’ at Whipsnade in the 1930s.)

I think a capuchin monkey founded the Aspinall parks , i remember reading on the website.

Well I'm unsure about the old zoo which opened in 1933, but Tina the Asian elephant has been with the current zoo since 1966 (she arrived at the old zoo) so I'm going to count Asian Elephants....if thats alright.

I know the old zoo also had several other species that the current zoo has now but I'm not sure they would be considered as founders. (i.e. gaps in keeping the species)

These include Lions, Chimps, Tigers (I think), Penguins and Sea Lions, probably more.

I think you are correct but I'm not 100% sure.
There just might possibly have been a gap after Manik died and before Roopa arrived but I don't think so as I think she was obtained as a mate for him originally though they didn't breed.

But as there was a gap before Mohan they don't technically count in these listings.

I have just checked the studbook:-

‘Roopa’ arrived 6th February 1973; ‘Manik’ died 25th April 1975

So there was no gap after ‘Mohan’ arrived.

I agree that, since there was a gap between ‘Hush’ dying in 1945 and ‘Mohan’ arriving in 1947, Indian rhinos don’t really count in these listings.
