Mhorr-and Addra-Gazelle are the same species Nanger dama- it's the same thing, but with another colour.;)

The nominate form is Nanger d. dama, the Mhorr gazelle is N. d. mhorr and the red-necked gazelle is N. d. ruficolis. However, molecular genetic studies contradict a split of the dama gazelle into several subspecies. Accordingly, the numerous color variations that are often used as criteria for these individual subspecies may be more likely due to clinical adaptations.

The genetic data suggest that the best conservation approach is to view the dama gazelle as a single species without subspecific divisions :

Splitting or Lumping? A Conservation Dilemma Exemplified by the Critically Endangered Dama Gazelle (Nanger dama)

By the way, in february, another Goodfellow-Tree kangaroo was born,:) also for the first time a Parma wallaby.

I am more than aware about this paper. I have been present at presentations on preliminary and.final outcome studies. The mhorr cluster at the bottom and only one OMOA and one Manga animal come close at haplotypes. It has been observed the characteristics of mhorr center in north west and become paler and patchy going east. Which is why I continue to advocate maintaning separate bloodlines for mhorr, ruficollis and dama. What really needs to be done is try capture Some dama from Manga, Termit and OMOA and breed another line in captivity and use the addra in US collections as founder stock for reintroductions in situ in Chad.

On May 15 a male Two-toed sloth was born at Frankfurt. Bevcause the mother produced not enough milk so the young gets extra milk-feedings from the keepers but can otherwise been raised by the mother.

Sad news: Margit the bonobo died peacefully on Friday 27th January. She was born in the wild and arrived at Frankfurt in November 1959, so she was thought to be over 70 years old. I saw her nearly 50 years ago; the bonobos at Frankfurt were the first I had ever seen, so I was determined to get a photo. More details at News - Zoo Frankfurt

Does anyone know if Kumar the male Asian lion is still alive? He was my favourite when he lived in Dublin
