Zoo Frankfurt Frankfurt Zoo

I visited Zoo Frankfurt on the 24th of September. I'll share some news, probably most will be known. Apparently it was some special day with plenty of stands and activities.
I heard that funding was approved from the city to start planning new renovation projects. The hippo and rhino enclosure together with the giraffe house are the next things they're looking to renovate or change.
The tiger cubs were on show and very visible, actively playing with their mother.
The Asiatic lions are still off show, a fossa inhabited the inside enclosure.
The sloths had a baby, so did the White-faced saki.
The jerboas are being bred fully behind the scenes but apparently most zoos don't want to hold them.
The kiwis are breeding well they have 2 couples that provide offspring regularly. Soon a new pair will be attempted to be coupled.
A bonobo Nayoki gave birth.
A hippo died because someone trew a tennis ball in the enclosure. So one remains, this might have happened a while ago.

Is the hippopotamus the only animal left in the rhinoceros/pachyderm house? I don’t suppose the zoo will get a new rhinoceros given how small the rhinoceros house and its outdoor enclosures are.

Yes and the lone surviving hippo is 47 years old and I highly doubt they’ll replace her after she dies. After then they’ll probably bring back rhinoceroses to have the pachyderm house all to themselves.

The linked article, Batto has posted, states that the Zoo is about to publish a masterplan next year, thats going to include the plans on the previously mentioned african savanna, that included both black rhinos and hippopotam (along their giraffes, zebras and antelopes). Concrete plans are not given, but they refer to the limited current space as potentialy temporary housing option.

Personaly I interpreted this as
So its either going to be new black rhinos until their new enclosure is completed or some smaller species, potentialy presented in case that their old enclosure would get converted into a new enclosure.

Earlier this month the zoo received a pair of Blue-spotted tree monitors (Varanus macraei) from Tiergarten Nürnberg, this is a new species for Frankfurt.

In February a Paraguayan tamandua (Tamandua tetradactyla straminea) was born.

Furthermore, Malaysian giant pond turtles (Orlitia borneensis) have also been put on show at the start of this month. According to ZTL this is also a new species for Frankfurt.

Recently a pair of Southern Moluccan pythons (Simalia clastolepis) was put on display in the Exotarium. This species arrived at the zoo last year, but had been kept behind the scenes since.
