Maned wolf Pilar gave birth to a still unknown number of young on Dec. 7 2015.
Father is Ronaldo which came in Oct. 2014 from Mulhouse to Frankfurt.
 
So I am aware there are four orangutans; Lucu (male, born in 2005), Rosa (female, born in 1989) and Sayang (?, born in 2012). Is Sayang a boy or a girl, and if so who is the fourth (male or female) orangutan and how old are they? Thanks :)
 
In the night to monday female southern black rhino"Tsororo"passed away-she was only 29 years old. Death cause isn't known yet.

So the question is now what to do with the male"Kalusho"-he is now the only southern black rhino in europe. Best thing would be to send him to the Usa or Australia.

So Frankfurts old Pachyderm house is getting more and more empty-just only one hippo and one rhino live it now.
 
At Frankfurt Zoo the 52-year old female Julchen has died :(. She was wild-born in 1964 in Congo and arrived at Frankfurt in 1966. Here she gave birth to 2 young, a male and a female.
 
"Julchen"arrived in March 1966 at the zoo in an estimated age of 18 month. She was undernourished and weight olny 5.2kg, but under good care she reached a weight of 17 kg at the end of 1966.

She gave birth to two young, in march 1978 to a female named"Lia", now at Ramat Gan, and in January 1980 to the male"Derrick",who died in 2005 at Berlin Zoo. Both were handraised.

Its so sad Julchen now passed away, she was the last member of the original gorilla group of the zoo.

It is indeed.:( I made the same comment on the 'Gorillas in Europe' thread. I saw Julchen several times in Frankfurt in her younger days- she was quite skinny/angular in those days, not like the rounded mature female of later years. Her angular face and greyish, 'grizzled' coat were her distinguishing features.

Some more information about the Golden-fronted spider monkey birth. Mother is the 14 year old Shakira and it's her 4th young.
The group now contains 6 animals :
Shakira
Zac ( breeding male )
Ocana ( second breeding female )
Luis ( male, young of Zac and Shakira, born 2013 )
the new young ( sex still unknown )
a 6 th animal ( no further information avaible to me )
 
7 Millionen Euro for a Penguin-Exhibit ? For that money, the Opel-Zoo Kronberg has build an elephant house...and they also have a brand new penguin ehxibit( for african penguins), what has cost only 1,2 milkion Euro....It seems Frankfurt zoo is a very rich one-and I guess, the floor of the upcoming penguin exhibit is made from gold.

From my point of view, the zoo could save this money, because they already have an exhibit for penguins-the current harbour seal exhibit, what was once used for Humbold-Penguins together with elephant selas and later with harbor seals-and the penguins bred very well.

So why not stop keeping seals, and keep there Humbodt-Penguins ? Is it really necessary in that small zoo to show two pinniped species ? I say no-the 7 Million euros could be used for much more useful things.
