Have Maasai giraffe lived with ass before in zoos? Mix well?
Somali wild ass are pretty temperamental to my understanding - IIRC they've only been mixed with ostrich. Why do you ask, if you don't mind me asking?Have Maasai giraffe lived with ass before in zoos? Mix well?
There are other threads focused on mixed exhibits that'd be better places to ask this question. This question has no relevance to the Franklin Park Zoo, so it really doesn't make sense asking it in this thread. So next time, please consider what thread you're asking a question in and whether or not it's the most appropriate thread to do so.Have Maasai giraffe lived with ass before in zoos? Mix well?
How old is this guy? He must be in his 70s or 80s.Fred Beall, the General Curator at Franklin Park, has a very long history with African penguins. He was the curator of birds at Baltimore when the first African penguins arrived there in the 1960s and kept a studbook for them years before they were formally recognized as an SSP, and helped build it into the chick-factory that it is today. It wouldn't be unfair to say that African penguins are so common in US zoos in no small part because of him. Not saying that this has anything at all to do with FPZ getting this exhibit, just pointing out the historic connection

@PercideRolo providing evidence with your claims would be very helpful in preventing issues like the one that arose with @Neil chace, who could not have possibly known what the purpose of your post was without that context.

It on website under specis survive plan. Construction was happening on zebra barn still and asked construction women and she said smali wild ass.
So wait, are they planning on cohabitating the Somali wild ass with the giraffe or having them separately if they're using the Grevy's zebra barn...?Barn is big. Could acomadate nice size group or have other specie to. Lot of work going on around zoo. Don’t seem to be slow down any time.
What would this leave the holders as? Franklin Park, Saint Louis, White Oak, Disney, San Diego? Anyone else? It's definitely a welcome addition, with two other US zoos phasing-out the species this year..
